As far as a builder, Keith Sumner has a good reputation. You may need someone like him with a lot of contacts just to get the job done...and done right the first time.

We bought a resale about 6 months ago...our first problem we encountered was with plumbing. The plumber we used shouldn't be in business! Things are still not right, even after paying him over $1000.00 on a job that should have been no more than $300.00 - 8 trips were made when 1 or 2 should have done it. Next, we've been looking for someone to help in our yard; cutting out under brush and just general clean up (about a $1000.00 job)...can't find anyone who will work...with the exception of a tree service charging over $3000.00, which we really don't need that extensive of work done.
Also, we needed a large closet built and some other light finishing in the basement. Had a guy come look at the job, he gave us a day he would be back; never showed up.

It's just very frustrating to have a plan and the money in which to do it, but no one to depend on to get the job done.

Good luck. Hope you have a better experience than we've had.

I did check out Sission on the highway south of Blue Ridge , Few people working in there and not so impressed, looked like a rough bunch .Maybe rethink building here and move towards cashiers nc , I have noticed work ethic not that good here. I will check out the builder you recommend. Bought some property and renting a place at the moment. Maybe better to let property sit. Thats the way ball bounces at times. Thanks buddy and good luck to you.i will contact the builder you have recommended. I did hear from a couple in the hey 60 area the person you recommended did great landscaping.

Yes, when I first heard of him it was a landscaping job I saw he had done...very impressive! Now I have seen a couple of houses he's built. If I were to build a house it would be him I would choose; however, there was just too much inventory around here to justify building when we bought 6 months ago. We did look into Sisson's, as well...we weren't impressed.

Don't give up on our area just yet! I haven't regretted making BR home. But renting is a great idea until you're 100% sure.

Good Luck!

Builders:
Keith Sumner: www.KeithSumner.com

Tommy Wosyluk: http://www.northgeorgialiving.com/sidebar-ad/...

Anthony Powell:
http://www.loghome.com/south-meets-west/

John Soave: http://buildingblueridge.com/

Matt Butler: http://www.mcbutlerconstruction.com/testimoni...

These are in no particular order, as all are great builders. They each have their own style of building as well. Some more rustic than others, but I would feel comfortable w/any of these guys. Hope this helps!

I just "copy & pasted" from a previous thread where someone was asking about builders. You may have to "copy & paste" these into your browser, not sure if they will be "live" links since I did it that way.

Blue Ridge is an awesome place to call home!! You may want to go by & talk to the guys @ Sisson Log Homes located by the Swan Drive-In. They are a log home/building supply, so they can probably recommend a good builder. They are not the same company as the one on 515, however they are related(brothers/cousins), but the place by the drive-in doesn't build their own homes, they are strictly a log home/building supply.

Hello,

If you're still in need of someone to help with your projects please send me an email at [email protected] com with your contact information and I'll be happy to put you in contact with someone that can help you with the excavating, septic and sewer.

As for a builder about the only advice I can give is to pick four or five to give you prices and then narrow them down. I know there used to be a few around that would stick you for a fast buck and provide a poor quality work. Check the fannin county chamber of commerce and see who's listed there too.

Hampton well drilling is the only well drilling company that comes to mind. They dug my well about 15 years ago.

I saw your request for a recommendation on a builder in our beautiful North Ga area. I saw where Mr. Sumner's name was mentioned to you in the below quote. As a local of this area, I am very familiar with the builders, architects, designers, etc in our area. I would hate for you to get involved with this builder without knowing the bad as well as the good. I could tell you my opinion of his qualifications as a homebuilder, but the best thing to tell you is to check into the law suits he has had against him and the homes that he has built. The homes do look nice from the outside, but the quality is just not there. Mr. Sumner is a good landscaper, but he does not build a quality home.

This is a common problem here. Seems most work a day or so for cig or beer money then complain the remaining 6 days about how broke they are. I've experienced the same thing here. You have to call 10 to have 1 show up and even then they may leave at lunch to never return.

Good luck in this area people have no work ethic and lack the education and common sense the rest of civilized America does. Very sad but true.
