Hopefully, the project is stalled. Has anyone thought about starting a petition to keep it out. I would sure sign it.

What we do need is a Publix.

Haven't heard that the project is stalled, but have heard construction is to begin in July with an opening date of January 2014.

I would also like to see a Publix in BR. Has there been "talk" of one coming?

why anyone would sighn a petition to keep walmart out of blueridge is beyond me. We need more decent stores here and would love to see a mall like towne center get built here. Bath and body works would be awesome. publix would be great. would love to see factories come here to so people would have places to work . It is ridiculous you have to drive out of town to buy anything you want or need. Would love to see more restraunts come here, cracker barrel, olive garden, red lobster etc... But i guess if fannin doesnt want or need the money they will continue to block things that would help the economy. I will continue to drive out of town and eat at nice restraunts and shop at the mall to get my clothes, shoes , makeup, perfume, lotions and shower products at bath and body works, Because there certainly is not anywhere in blue ridge to shop.

To be fair, we have one in Blairsville, one in Ellijay, and one in Murphy, NC.

I'm friends with one of the people on the build team. They were originally put "on standby", but it wasn't until Fall of last year where things sort of just went silent.

Take that any way you want.

doesnt matter how many other countys have a walmart blue ridge needs one. I am friends with someone who works at the corportate office at walmart and have been reassured building will start in july as planned. Just about every county has a walmart besides blue ridge. pickens has one and so does cherokee and murray and whitfield etc... get the picture ... If blue ridge thinks they dont need or want the revenue it will bring here ... Everyone will continue to go out of town to walmart and whatever county they go to will be happy to take there money. Normally when people go to walmart they dont just go there they also go out to eat .. so those restraunts are taking in the money blue ridge could be getting. Blue ridge is hurting its self by trying to be a tourist town. i am a lifetime native of blue ridge ... and i hate what they are trying to turn it into.

I myself do all of my grocery shopping at walmart. For the most part there prices are cheaper than Ingles or food lion. And if it happens to be a little higher , if it's on sale somewhere else for a cheaper price walmart will match the sale price. Also when i am out of town buying groceries i either eat lunch or supper out depends on what time i go. You have a lot of great places to choose from to eat at out of town. Unlike blue ridge. Also if blue ridge had a mall like towne center it would bring awesome revenue to the county ... People would have somewhere to shop for their clothes , shoes, makeup, perfumes, bathing supplies, etc..... I have lived my whole life here and it is ashame i have to drive out of town to work because there are no jobs here, i have to drive out of town to do any kind of shopping, grocery, clothing, etc... I always always go out of town christmas shopping because once again there is no where here to shop. And music there is no where to buy c.d.s here ... so once again if there is a c.d. i want to buy i must drive out of town to go get it. RIDICULOUS!!!!!!

Not only all of the above but while i am grocery shopping at walmart if i need the oil changed in my car or tires rotated or new tires put on they will do it while i shop. Once again money going to another county instead of my own.

oh and another thing ... if you want to go to the movies ... you once again must drive out of town to the movies because most of the seats at blue ridge twin cinema is broken. And the list just goes on and on .

Stormy why dont you move out of town. If you think buying at walmart helps your local econamy your crazy. Profits go out of town and walmart only employs part time minimum wage.

That is where you are wrong walmart employees full and part time people. And they get paid better than minimum wage. I know several people that works at walmart full time and part time. And NO i am not moving anywhere Walmart will help the economy it will bring jobs for people. And even if they did only pay minimum wage that is better than no money at all. I am going to do everything in my power to get more restraunts, stores, factories, etc... to come to fannin county . I am going to start making calls monday. I am tired of people like you trying to block things from coming here.
money goes where

Last I checked, would either employee a couple hundred people and allow even more to be closer to home. Sure no one local is going to benefit from that, but I don't see people on here bitching and moaning about all the downtown business owners that don't live in fannin itself. I would imagine that a vast majority of people in Fannin go to Union or Gilmer and spend a few thousand a year at the business. This tax money will now funnel into the fannin county economy. Gripe all you want about $8 or $9 an hour but I'd put my paycheck against yours that a majority of those little businesses that employee people downtown start people off at the same if not less than what walmart pays.

Your "tid bit of info" as you call it, isn't true. Sorry boutcha! When the deal was finally settled, the start day was July,'13. It's always been that date. AGL made a speech about the gas lines they recently put in & spoke of the future wal mart that is 'slated to start in July.' Etc....
