I couldn't help but notice that you are relying on an article with quotes from two conservatives who have been OUSTED from the party. Weren't you critizing the reliability of Aggie's post because of "admitted conservatism"(#24459)? Just seems rather self serving that you'll accept quotes from two FORMER GOP big wigs AFTER they have been OUSTED from the party because their quotes SUPPORT your argument. Don't you think they might be a little ticked off and BIASED? Oh my, you are just too amusing. Oooohhhh myyyyyyy.
Feel free to show us where the FL GOP asked for, and received, a retraction from the Palm Beach Post. Also, since Crist then went on to testify before Congress feel free to show where he was charged with perjury.

The disparity between the top !% and the bottom 99% is wider NOW than in over a century. Why do you think that's is? I thought your hero was supposed to fix that. Clueless IO will claim that Obama is a right winger. Of course, we ALL know he jumped the shark years ago. Could it be that the left doesn't care about the middle class either? Seriously, with the GREAT ONE at the helm, how can this possibly be??????
Do you seriously blame Obama for the huge gap between middle class American and the rich 1% seriously!?!?!?! Why don't you look at the many years it has taken for this to happen??? Why do you hold such I regard high regard for Obama, the Great One, are you serious??? Left, right, middle who gives a damn besides moronic lunatics like you. When the conversation should be about long term improvement for the middle class who have been in decline for close to 20 years!?!?! Are you for real??

How can you be so dumb, that's a question. And please don't say your stupidity is Obamas fault as much as you might like to think it is.

Nice try, but you strain belief.
Regardless of why Barry Goldwater voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964, or his subsequent work, the fact remains that he did vote AGAINST the Civil Rights Act. And do you really think that the nuance of "why" was explained to the southern electorate during the Election of 1964; there is a video of Goldwater explaining "why" to William F Buckley in 1966.
"and he (Barry Goldwater) had voted against civil rights legislation, facts not lost on vote-counters in either party."
If you think that was a legitimate response, you are sadly mistaken. The point was the source you quoted claimed he "had voted against civil rights legislation" - that implies a pattern -that is false and demonstrably false. I gave the FACTS that with the exception of the 1964 Act, he had been a firm supporter of civil rights (PRIOR to 1964, not subsequent as you just claimed) and proved it through his actions in his state, which is where he thought those actions belonged. He explained at the time and thereafter that his objections to the Act (which he voted for in its original form) were the provisions added that he believed were unconstitutional. He took a principled stand on constitutionality. Yes, he did explain the "why", some people got it and some people didn't.
Then, as now, we had many uninformed and ignorant voters - that's how we got Obama for two terms.

Exactly. How much credibility does anyone really think Crist has. He comes up with his information after getting trounced in his Senate run and goes crying with his tail between his legs and joins the Democrat party. Yeah, no conflict of interest there.

they do here at the expense of that average Joe who is America? You do realize that the opportunities that existed in the 40's thru the middle 90's are just not there anymore for a lot of Americans.
You undermine your argument when you trumpet your obvious bias:

"Should we protect the rich who don't really care what country they operate in. Who are here only because they can do what they do here at the expense of that average Joe who is America?"

And I could just as easily say "Why should we give money to the lazy people who aren't interested in working hard, but just want everybody else to hand over their hard earned money so that they can sit on their posteriors and watch tv all day."

Both statements are gross exaggerations of the opposing sides of the spectrum.

And you're right, opportunities are not as plentiful as they once were, but they are still there for those willing to work hard and be responsible. A Brookings Institute study showed three guidelines alone that significantly impact an individual's chances of not living in poverty.
1. Finish high school.
2. Do not marry before the age of 21 and do not have children until marriage.
3. Have a full time job.

Follow those three steps and you have a less than 2% chance of living in poverty and you have a 74% chance of being securely in the middle class. With today's economy is it harder to have that full time job, arguably true, especially given the policies that have been in place for the last 4 years, but those jobs are still out there.

And just how do you propose that the "public needs" be met in a greater amount than they already are - just what is it you want. And how do you propose to pay for it? Just how much do you think "the rich" should be "allowed" to keep of their own hard earned money? Let's review: the top 1% pay 37% of federal income taxes, the top 5% pay 58% and the top 10% pay 70%- how much more do you think they should pay?

Much of what you state has some merit, but has some problems as well.
Democratic Socialists think that the economy should be run democratically. OK. What does that mean? Does it mean that the mom and pop entrepreneurs who take chances, work long hours and are guaranteed nothing should step aside once they have become successful and turn their little companies over to some government entity? The small company is and has been the back bone of the American economy for generations, provides over 60% of the employment in this country, yet is the very sector to take most of the regulatory hits from one government agency or another. Both sides of the aisle pretend to care about middle class America, but from where I;m sitting, nothing could be further from the truth.
You want more jobs and so do I. No one wants to see people stuck in low end entry level positions for which they are seriously over qualified.
We need to let business people do what they do and go after the crooks when they do what they do.
All of these politicians that go after the Merrill Lynches or Chases of the world only to settle out of court for big fines, serve two purposes. 1.- The politician gets plenty of fame and has a big company or bank in his pocket. 2. The people that actually perpetrated the crimes get off scott-free, using shareholder funds to pay off these fines.
The politician and the criminals from these companies have dinner together and figure out how to do it again.
You want solutions and so do 99% of Americans, but we're too stupid to see that they pit us one against the other, liberal vs conservative; democrat vs Republican. And we keep doing business with these companies and we keep electing "our guy" because he isn't like the rest. Foolishness.
We get distracted by the latest dog and pony show, when we should be calling the real bad actors out.
Get the government out of the business of playing central planners, and start holding criminals responsible for their crimes.
Revamp the tax system, stop punishing success, and stop indoctrinating young people by convincing them they have no prospects without big brother. Not going to be easy.

+1 Good post. A lot of us know what needs to be done. How do we accomplish it? Politicians say whatever they need to in order to get votes. They get elected and then forget about who put them there. Of course, term limits would go a long way in correcting what is going on, but I don't see that happening any time soon. We keep thinking that we are voting for people with integrity, but the lure of power and perks seems to strip them of that attribute. Any ideas?

Pick one issue at a time and bombard the elected official with emails and letters. Encourage friends in other districts or states to do likewise. We have been derelict in not letting our representatives know what we expect from them and that we're paying attention. When the scripted, one size fits all response hits our mailbox, throw it back at them rather than give up. Make respond more than once. They will get the message.

I will give you credit for admitting that Obama is not at fault for us going down the tubes. We were already down the tubes when your party left American with no other choice but Obama. The members of Congress on both sides are the real problem, doing nothing but posturing for the next election and just making things worse than Obama ever could. Congress has the power to do SOMETHING, so they just argue among themselves and try to repeal ObamaCare for the 100th time just to look good for the base that elects them. They can still count and know they have NO CHANCE, but they waste time and money anyway.

No wonder they can't do anything right, on time or at budget in D.C. They can't even drive a car without making a mistake. Ranked #1 in the nation for accidents! Most accidents happen in and around Congress, imagine that.

No. 1: Washington D.C.

Population: 632,323 (Rank 23)

Years between accidents: 4.8

Washington drivers are 109.3% more likely to have an accident than the national average. D.C. has had a lock on the worst-drivers spot since 2010.
