A Wal-Mart is a residential area that shares a road with a hospital, brilliant

Let the public vote. These types of things ought to be decided in direct elections.

Yes, let's protest a store that sells everything you'd ever want (cheaply), and that will add 250 jobs to the area.
Brilliant!

Remember the KMart in Lake Grove? Gone now. Replaced by Lowe's. Kmart sold everything cheap, too. Until Walmart and Target and Kohl's came to town. There's no one magic store.

The Walmarts on Long Island are unlike Walmarts elsewhere. The ones here are dirty outside and in. They're horrible.

Not only is the site 1/4 mile from a busy hospital, but it is directly across the street from a firehouse The entrance to the Walmart will be right opposite the exit for ambulance, and fire rescue trucks. All this and a single lane bridge to boot!

Oh yes, those 250 jobs. Wow, more retail jobs. Just what the economy needs. Maybe it will help a few people, but it's not really a boon to the economy here.

Yes, let's protest a store that's in the middle of a residential area, on a direct ONE-LANE route to a hospital, and will just marginalize the rest of East Patchogue further.

Let's.

Thats right you live in Lake Grove. Home of the smith haven mall, and a gazillion strip malls. I guess to you, a big box store in a residential neighborhood must be scenic. do you bring the family out for picnics in the parking lots?

IMO it's a good idea, I live just on the other side of Woodside Ave from Hospital Rd, and this would be a good idea for the area.

Traffic comes to a halt eastbound because Sunrise merges from three to two lanes at hospital road and anyone going to Wal-Mart or the Brookhaven Hospital would be forced to sit through traffic while people looking to save a buck are trying to get over a single lane bridge.

Politically motivated? No, I don't want myself or the people I care about to be victims of Wal-Mart's greed. There's a hulking empty ex-Home Depot on the corner of Sunrise and 112 -- what's wrong with that site???

250 jobs?? How many of those workers will be told by Wal-Mart how to apply for public assistance because they won't be given enough hours to afford to eat, pay their bills, or qualify for benefits.

If the people in the community want a cheap, local place to shop that sends more money to China than is saved by American shoppers, let them move next to a Wal-Mart.

What's wrong with adding another Walmart? They're one of the few Blue-Chip companies that actually made a profit last quarter. I know they don't pay well. But, a job with Walmart could be somebody's lifeline until a better job comes along when the economy improves.

Oh, there are other places they could put it in the general area and no one would bat an eye.

But this is quite honestly a very piss-poor location.

Someone else snapped it up first. Raymour and Flanigan, lol.

Don't suggest the Patchogue UA either - those the owners are making into condos.

In fact, don't suggest any predeveloped land. Wal-Mart wants to do this on the cheap.

Walmart would mean construction jobs then stock, security and retail jobs. If the protesters don't want Walmart what alternatives do they have to suggest to the construction workers, stockers, security workers, and retail workers who desperately need those jobs?

The article doesn't mention that East Patchogue resident John Woods is also an official with the Food Workers Union UFCW that has prevented construction of stores all over Long Island. He and his members are working but they don't seem to want anyone else to have a job.

isn't there an empty store down by Montauk HWY. I think it use to be a Pergament years ago. What about where the Bellport outlets are, is that a better spot?

Financial worries are never far away in these troubled times, but try not to let them get out of control. or you'll make yourself feel really fraught. If you're starting to panic about how you can afford this very expensive month, you need to work out a strict budget. Above all, be realistic about what you can and can't do, and don't allow panic to lead you by the nose.
