Fond memories of decrepit East Patchogue theater

Full story: Newsday

In the 1960s, when palatial theaters called the Granada, the Rialto and the Star Palace neared the end of their reign over Patchogue's nightlife, the Plaza Theater was something of a newcomer - a flat-topped box of a building with a single screen.

Can they continue westbound on Main Street with the demo?

Will this Mazzei clown, please, just disappear!

Re: Go West Please....Bravo....Will Mazzei please just disappear....he is a total embarrassment to Long Islanders....regarding that theater....a good deal of retail Patchogue could use a make over....the local government is doing a spectacular job bringing multiple housing units in....a great move....hopefully this will lead to and increase in folks once again shopping downtown rather than at disappointing Gateway and Bellport Plazas.

Why destroy a relic that brought so many small great memories to so many people. Lets revitalize the theatre, make it into an old style theatre again, one screen, personalized service. What this country needs is community. Take the community back by bringing back those memories. Not by destroying them so we can have another empty store front for lease.

This wreck is one of the worst blights on Brookhaven Town. Illegal aliens and homeless drug abusers have used it for a flop and a bathroom, it has been an epicenter for crime in Patchogue. For the past 10 years the Town has known about this condition and has DONE NOTHING! Mazzei has done nothing! That is why he is NOT the supervisor and why he will be out on his butt cheeks in November. The town needs a REAL town attorney that knows how to get things done! This building owner is a selfish, greedy pig. He has not maintained his building and it has harmed the whole area. Go after him! Get rid of this blight, do your damn jobs!

It's completely unfit for anything at this point. Plus, it would be demolished so they could have room to do a realignment of Avery and Grove Streets at Main Street.

Why can't a bum just torch this place already?

You need to get out and about more.

Let me see, where do I want to live?
Ridge, Patchogue? Ridge, Patchogue?
What the heck, there's no difference!

Typical Ridge moron, or is it Gordon Heights?

Many years ago for forty plus years, my Great grandparents lived in a comfortable home on Lincoln rd. in Yaphank. They maintained a large vegetable garden, fruit trees, and berry bushes, which sustained them for the entire year.
Along comes the L I E, which proceeded to condemn every house in it's path. With a simple 500 ft jog north, my grandparents house would have been saved. They were both in their upper nineties, and literally lived to work the land.
When the bulldozers leveled their house. They were forced to live with their daughter.(my fathers mother) in an apartment in Brooklyn. In a short time span of 1 1/2 years, they had both passed away from politicians sucking the life right out of them.

I mention this disturbing story because, when there is a political agenda. The majority of the time, they get their way.
So... I have to wonder. Why is this building NOT condemned as yet? Just don't smell right to me.

Exactly what I've thought. Save us a lot of time and money.
I still don't understand how an owner can allow his building to deteriorate like that and get away with it?

I grew up in Patchogue, lived there for almost 30 years. That entire area around the Plaza is a mess, the Plaza being the center of the mess. what about the empty True Value hardware store across the street? Is that still vacant? Really until you hit the Mediterainian (?) Manor its really a mess. Theres the old Nessenger Chevy dealership, then the small set of store across from Blockbuster. Then the area near the Plaza, did anything ever take over the empty Pizza Hut across the street?

Answer: Mix incompetence and corruption in equal amounts and you get Crookhaven. Shame on the elected officials of Crookhaven! Shame on their families! They are out for themselves and nothing more!

Ask Steve Levy and Jack Eddington....they held a press conferance to look good and did nothing but claim they are going to demolish the place. Then again, they are county people...and we know how that goes...read on...the county operates in very interesting ways under our pal Levy. Check out www.levylead.com and see.
