ive seen in recent years blue island is plagued with corruption. the recent election we had needs to be re evaluated. There are rumours that some candidates cheat and so sloppy as if blue islanders are stupid. The calumet township has sadly underwent new "management." Poor Ray Martino, one of the few men acually doing something for his community and a fixture on the eastside and the older residents, he and his associates will be greatly missed. If anyone agrees give me a mention as a blue island resident for 15 years i am conserned what happens here and how our tax dollars are being spent, they shouldnt be used to buy useless objects and paying DUI fines as some polititians have done in the past. THANK YOU MR. Larry Petta and Ray Martino Sr.(a personal friend) for thier outstanding service to the township and our community.

you mean "POOR" ray martino- one of the few men actually doing NOTHING for his community. and he' more like an old rotted out nauseating fixture on the east side! that man has done absolutely nothing for this community, including calumet park. His sorry "stay with ray" campaign was nothing but a smear campaign. If he actaully did anything for the township- he could have promoted POSITIVE literature. wow he did such a great job- you have a run down senior center that is more depressing than ever and a field that is nothing more than some grass. that is all he really had to worry about- and had over 30 years to clean things up. maybe if he worried more about the citizens and less about filling his and petta's pockets, the township wouldnt be in the shambles its in now. The only ones that support Mendacious Martino and the DEMMORALIZED DISCONTINUED service Party are those that are getting their pockets padded. I feel sorry for the ones that are left to clean up the mess those fraudulent fools- Malicious Martino and Lying Larry left behind. The newly elected township officials WILL bring about the necessary change to get the township back on its feet.

I volunteer as deputy registrar getting people to register to vote. Last fall, I went into the Calumet Township office on York St.in BI and asked for some voter registration forms. Larry Petta reused to give me any forms saying "I don't know why you wauld want more people to vote." I had never met Mr. Petta before and had no opinion of him but I certainly do now. I'm glad that we have new people in the township office.

OUTSTANDING SERVICE??? "Malicious Martino and Lying Larry" ????? What astounds me is how people continued to elect them term after term! People FINALLY woke up!
Mario, you DEFINITELY have the wool pulled over your eyes. Maybe you have been been getting your pockets padded too... or is it the water?

Maybe we should get rid of Township government altogether? Its an old form of government that only serves a real purpose in rural areas. Township governments lay dormant in most of the country for that very reason.

Seniors and the disabled need the services and transportation the Township provides.

I realize that's the services they provide. That's all that they have left. City government can take over those services. How do you think those services are provided in states where township government doesn't even exist?

I'm just throwing it out there.

I agree with "Bringback" about questioning the real need for townships in Cook County. We have a senior department down at city hall, a county senior services department and a brand new Salvation Army Center being built in BI. A township in Cook County has become an unnecessary layer of government. I grew up in a small community where the township provided the fire and emergency services plowed the roads in winter. We could do without the township in Cook County.

Federal and state funds are distributed to various organizations to prevent monopoly.
The Salvation Army is one of several private organizations that are given funds for distribution and to provide a wealth of services that include; Well Being Checks for Seniors and Shut Ins. As you mentioned your township provided the fire and emergency services plowed the roads in winter; that is worthy of consideration especially after last winter in Blue Island. At Christmas our streets were like an ice skating rink.

this is directed to jose esparza and kelly, in response.. being personal friends with the former calumet township supervisor i will stand up for his honor, Ray Martino is himself a senior citizen and has spent many years of his life helping them as i said before. Ive seen this town change from a quiet community to a model of what i would call the wild wild west of political mud slinging, haha.. Everyone on our end believes Mr Martino was a excelent fixture on our township and once again i congradulate him and his trustees. God help us Rita took over, thats a waste of tax dollars and a shame on our town. Calling us republicans? they'll do anything these days to cast the watchdog spot light off of them, even hurt former friends like all of us on the East Side. Dont be fooled... this is a miniture verson of whats happening in the European Unions politicians and trying to take over and eventually diminish self government.. its a damn shame how some self absorbed phonies weaseled thier way into our township. it is shooking absolutley shooking

Forget about the city of Blue Island taking over any Township services. They can't even provide the services that, they already are suppose to. The uptown area is filthy, stores empty, streets and sidewalks in disrepair, And yet taxes and fees go up every year.

its the worst we have ever seen, plus all they do is pass ordinance after ordinance to solve problem that aren't even enforced in the first place. but ticket there residents who try to support this filthy city. hire more people in city gov. ya !! thats the answer.
