Unlawful Use of Weapon and Drug Possession
Michael Preston, 30, of the 16900 block of Songbird Circle in Orland Park, was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon after officers found a Smith & Wesson Airweight .38 revolver in his coat pocket, police said. Police approached Preston after receiving complaints of a trespasser who was banging on the door of a house in the 11700 block of West 193rd Street. Preston resisted officers several times, and once he was handcuffed, they searched him and found the gun. Preston told police it belonged to a friend of his who was a police officer in Blue Island and he had put it in his coat pocket to take into his house and had forgotten about it. Preston was also charged with possession of cannabis after police found a green leafy substance in his car, possession of drug equipment and criminal trespass to property. Preston's companion, Melissa A. Corcoran, 25, of the 9700 block of Lawndale in Evergreen Park, was arrested and charged with criminal trespass to property and with possession of hypodermic needles after police found needles in her purse. Corcoran told police they were for heroin, according to the report.
Pot, hypodermic needles? I wish they had listed who the BIPD officer was.

To really... You could be right..there is a possibility..but why does BLUE ISLAND police always have something to do with some type of corruption? I can't see everyone that says something has it out for them...not all of blue island police are crooked but a majority of them are..

Someone is obviously confused between BIPD (BI Police Dept ) and BIPD (BI Park District)
The facts: Illegal and unauthorized pool party; (1) using public property for private use; (2) sex on public property; (3) drinking on public property without any authorization; (4) death; and inflicted great harm and sorrow to many residents. These were all acts committed by members of the PARK DISTRICT. The officers present were there for a short time after the fest closed because they were working as security, paid by the PARK DISTRICT, and all left before the "pool party" got out of control. The park commissioners were among the people in the pool, not the police. And who is this majority you speak of?
Of all the "corruption" you speak of in, which I imagine is public record somewhere and not just a rumor from a bunch of fools, please guide me to the incidents where the BIPD were in involved so we can see this majority you speak of.

Blue Island, IL An HIV-positive Blue Island has filed a civil rights lawsuit in district court against the City of Blue Island and two of its police officers for allegedly using excessive force, maliciously prosecuting him and verbally assaulting him for being an HIV-positive, gay man, among other allegations.

According to the complaint, Demetrius Anderson, who suffers from clinical depression and anxiety, attempted suicide in April 2009. When EMTs arrived, Anderson allegedly panicked and tried to run away. Officers arrived on the scene, and supposedly unbeknownst to Anderson, began to chase him. Anderson claims that one of the officers used a taser on him without warning and used excessive force, which caused him injury.

The case also alleges that the officers verbally assaulted Anderson that day, making comments about his religion. Anderson is Muslim.

Anderson was taken to a hospital and treated for his self-inflicted wound. According to the lawsuit, when Anderson was taken from the hospital to the police station for booking several days later, police officers made negative comments regarding his HIV status and sexual orientation. Additionally, the complaint alleges that an officer commented that the next time Anderson attempts suicide, he should jump off a bridge.

"It is extreme and outrageous that these officers would maliciously target Mr. Anderson for this horrible abuse at a time when he was most vulnerable," said attorney Jon Erickson. "The depth of hate and prejudice regarding race, sexuality, mental health and HIV status is aggressively shocking."

Police charged Anderson with resisting arrest.

The lawsuit, filed by Chicago's Civil Rights Center, also alleges that the Blue Island Police Department failed to properly train its officers to effectively deal with people suffering from mental illness.

Calls to the Blue Island Police Department have not yet been returned.

Blue Island Detective Guilty Of Sex Abuse
June 16, 1992
A Blue Island police detective was found guilty Monday of misdemeanor criminal sexual abuse and sentenced to 18 months of court supervision and ordered to undergo counseling. Detective Michael Kennedy, 33, previously had been suspended by Blue Island's Civil Service Commission pending the outcome of his case. Police Chief Robert Grantmann said Monday that Kennedy would now be fired. Kennedy had been accused of fondling a 19-year-old Chicago woman last August. Police said he was off duty when he saw the woman in a Blue Island bar and, suspecting that she was underage, called police.
