Kadner and the Southtown are no longer a newspaper they are a local tabloid not worthy of reading. Kadner has a history of kissing ass when he has too. "Hope" Kadner was singing a different tune when Peloquin was Mayor.

A vacant car dealership and factory near 119th Street and Vincennes Avenue also have been vacant for a long time.

(Generally, brownfield sites exist in a city's or town's industrial section, on locations with abandoned factories or commercial buildings, or other previously polluting operations. Small brownfields also may be found in many older residential neighborhoods. For example, many dry cleaning establishments or gas stations produced high levels of subsurface contaminants during prior operations, and the land they occupy might sit idle for decades as a brownfield.
Typical contaminants found on contaminated brownfield land include hydrocarbon spillages, solvents, pesticides, heavy metals such as lead (e.g., paints), tributyltins, and asbestos. Old maps may assist in identifying areas to be tested.)

Those buildings are in the 7th Ward, where Vargas ignored, lived, and served as alderman/mayor pro tem for 20+ years.

I recently learned that we may be able to repair one bridge at a reduced cost, and were looking at that. But we need money from the state, and Im working on that.

(Alderman/mayor pro tem; voted and passed appropriations for 20+ years ignoring basic community needs.)

Why should he have any? No need to. He was only an alderman, just one of 14. Despite what you think, an alderman and even a group of aldermen, really don't have much power. Ever work in government of any kind? Tons and tons of red tape and stumbling blocks at every step. The state is broke, the Feds are broke....hard to do anything that costs money when there isn't any available to spend and every city and state needs it. Don't blame him but if you must blame someone then blame state politicians for making Illinois a highly taxed and super expensive state for companies to operate in and blame the last several presidents and Congresses for companies moving their factories out of the country and along with them, good paying manufacturing jobs that made our country what it used to be. It's only been a week now, give the new mayor a chance! Sounds like he has already put a lot of time, thought and effort into getting things going for the town. Could you do better? Then run for mayor the next time and lets see what you can do. In the meantime, you can always offer up your ideas and suggestions of viable solutions to any and all of BI's problems instead of just complaining and judging.

It all started three weeks ago.
#1 power washed city hall and walks
#2 paint hand rails and stairs
#3 clean up landscape and add new mulch
I thought it was a change for the good of our city, a real work in progress.
The truth... It was all for the South town photo shoot for Vargas.
Where is the photo of all whom took a new position?Where is the group photo with ALL council members?

A lack of money also resulted in the closing of the Chatham and Division street bridges over the Calumet Sag Channel, closing two key north-south streets to residents and potential consumers traveling to the city.

The city administration had a ten year warning to repair the bridges. They chose not to. There was plenty of money, but they spent it on something else.

Mayor Vargas stop short of telling the truth in the Kadner interview. He is afraid to implicate himself, Pam Frasor, Don Peloquin. We can expect more of this half truth tactic going forward. He knows all to well, where the proverbial bodies are buried.

Vargas is still a puppet, he never changed Peloquin's commissioners at all. Same folks running all the departments. Same fraud and hiring schemes. Vargas is just great at keeping a lid on everything.
