If you cared at all about 218 you would try to make change. Complaining here does not help and as you can see all the election races were unchallenged. What graft? What Corruption? If you are that close to the action what are you doing to stop it?
Do not whistleblow, look at any person who has tried to make right the wrongs of this district. It did not turn out well. The situation is vey backwards, instead of praising individuals that point out wrong doing, they are heavily frowned upon and patronized.

<quoted text>Even with change on the Board (which is responsible for managing the $50 million dollar business of the District) Robbins, Calumet Park and Blue Island will still have Chicago Street Gangs, property values will stay low, and the Grade School Districts will fail. You want the "bright" 218 students to teach the 7th graders in Cal Park to read and to study? And you want a 218 board member to set it up? Did any feeder school board member ask 218 for help with this? Did you ask your Board Member who represents you to set this up? All it would take is one bad experience for you to claim again that the Administration is bad or the Board is corrupt. Did you know that 218 administrators meet regularly with feeder schools to identify at-risk students and remedial study planning? Did you know that 218 administrators provide assistance to feeder school districts with resources, networks and guidance? Do you care that the first thing adults ask at registration is never "Where do I sign my student up for tutoring?" but is "Where do I sign up for free lunches? and "How do I get a waiver for for my fees?" When the kids start being a priority for their families, we will make progress. It all starts at home.
Managing a 50 million dollar busines that apparently only this administration can run. There are several qualified people that would take on this task. I expect that administrators would meet with feeder schools, this is part their job so do not pat them on the back. That word corrupt, again I did not apply that for some reason that is your choice of words. What does it matter who asks for help, why can't it be offered? I beieve parents are ENCOURAGED to apply for free lunches and waivers(more Title 1 funding). Again the diversity of this district was well known before any member of the board requested a seat and Administrators knew what they where signing up for. If they can not get the job done, step a side.

What is your point? If you are are aware of the Title 1 status then you know about the freebies for qualified students. I have never heard an administrator complain about the diversity. Just admit that it is this very diversity that is causing the AYP for the entire district to fall. Student's scores from Districts 130, 132 and 143.5 are so bad in High School that even with top-performing students scores from Oak Lawn Worth and Palos Heights the Average can't be raised. Throw in the underperforming 127.5 Chicago Ridge School District and now you have 3 failing schools where you only had one. You seem to be very quick to tell those who disagree with you to "step a side". How about this? Move back to the other side of Halsted and tangle with Fenger High School. Is that enough diversity for you?

Not Really, you speak with a forked tongue. "Never complain about the diversity, just admit that it is this very diversity that is causing AYP for the entire district to fall." You are not listening, My point is No results, step a side and let someone else with fresh ideas take over. By the way the Chicago Public School District is rated right ABOVE School District 218. Why would I "Move back to the other side of Halsted and tangle with Fenger High School"? My taxes are paid to District 218, I expect more and will not waive on these issues and my people are here to stay. If it is starting to get too hot under your collar than maybe you should consider a departure yourself.

Eisenhower High School ranked 564 out of the 669 Illinois High Schools for 2011-2012 school year and this is a slide of 20 spots from the 2010-2011 school year. They fall into rankings with many of the Chicago Public High Schools, although some of the Chicago schools do rate high. District 218 priorities are way off and are in need of major adjustments. Maybe these administrtors and board members should concentrate on what the top 25% schools are doing right and follow suit. There are schools that are title I and diversed among these top 25% ranked schools, so there should be no excuse. If they can not get the job done take a look at who does and if they can't do that, then it is time to step a side for the sake of the children. Absolutely, no more contracts extended, administrative increases or bonuses until parents and taxpayers see results!! These principals and administrators are paid extremely well, some of the best paid in the state, and it is high time they earn it.

My collar is fine today, but think you you should consider the effect of teaching to the tests as is done in CPS. Admit that the experience of the top 25% of schools is in smaller districts thus skewing results of any valid comparison. If you think that no new policies have been implemented or any new curriculum have been implemented or no new structures have been deployed you are wrong. Our Inner ring suburbs pose unique problems for our educators.

At the Candiate Speak night last Saturday, the candidates were introduced by 6 students of the Eisenhower National Honor Society.
All of the students did a great job and it should be noted that 5 of the 6 students are minority students. These students are leaders both in academics and in the community. Eisenhower graduate, Maria Esparza who is running for the 7th ward alderman in Blue Island is a graduate of the University of Chicago, one of the top ten universities in the U.S.

"Not Really" while you choose to degrade and belittle the children of our Blue Island commuinty,We choose to support our children and be deeply proud of their accomplishments.

Please get it right. The students you mentioned were not from the minority demographic in Blue Island. They were part of the majority demographic in Blue Island and Eisenhower. It does not appear that other posts were racially motivated so please don't go out in that direction. They are, as you point out, a tribute to their families and their school and they are succeeding where the high school itself is failing. They should be celebrated. The community needs more success stories like them.

The arguments here seem to revolve around whether school districts, school boards and administrators that should take the blame for all of the 218 schools failing to meet AYP.

There are many taxpayers in other parts of High School District 218 that believe they have paid plenty of taxes to ensure that all three schools should be successful and meeting National and State Standards. The 218 administrators and the 218 board believe that they have taken every step that they can to ensure that all three schools meet AYP. Three of four groups (CASA, 218 taxpayers, 218 Board, 218 Administration) are looking for someone to blame.

CASA however is not. CASA is proud that there are 4 NHS students and a University of Chicago graduate from their fair City. 218 is burning because of the failing schools but CASA is proud.

Hide behind your children CASA, and protect your failing school districts in the process.

Apathy in action in reference to a post on topix listing unchallenged candidates for School Board office? Are you arguing that protesting and feeling connected to a cause or movement is not only beneficial to society, but to one's own personal health? Or are you arguing that you are somehow superior because you did run to challenge any of these candidates? Or is it something else entirely? It is kind of hard to change the outcomes here. All of these candidates will win as soon as they vote.

Why is Mr. Heuser attempting to convince the smart voters in Blue Island he willing and able to work Two Full Time Jobs and a Part Time Job?

In his bio he clearly identified two very time consuming jobs he already has, one of the jobs on the school board he is certainly not doing a very good job with since there are numerous complaints from multiple sources including the media.
There appears to be no way he can could honestly work all three jobs and excel, after all
there are ONLY 168 hours in a WEEK.
Why try to continue the effort to convince voters to elect Heuser for clerk when he just does not have the time to do the clerk's business and most likely needs to be working much harder somewhere else? How can he even be available at all three places?

Apathy in that no one is willing to run against them,,, and apathy in that few people vote or show up to board meetings. I am unable to run for these positions because I do not live in the district.
