I say if you can not improve a situation in the amount of time this board has had, it is time to step a side and let someone new take a fresh approach. Are you aware of the Linda Vahl situation from the last board election? She lost to Pratl by 22 votes only for him to resign before he was even swarn in. You would of thought, the board would of appointed Ms. Vahl as the taxpayers choice but they chose to leave that seat empty for two years. Could you please let us know what sub district you are a write candidate for? The board and board members seem to have forgotten they are there for the youth and the taxpayers,
NOT the OTHER WAY AROUND!

Hopefully by St Patrick's Day Ms Bonds will figure out which sub-district she lives in and which of the Board Members that she is running against. District 218 was split into Sub Districts almost 30 years ago. Board Members are elected from within these sub-districts. The only Drama here is that she failed to include any of that district information on her write in paperwork with the county. Nothing here states who her opponent is. School Board Candidates only needed 50 signatures to get on the Ballot. If she did a little work ahead of time she there would be no drama and maybe she could have conducted a real campaign. Following the rules is the least that she could have done. Instead she is claiming that "Regardless of the senseless tactics School District 218 has resorted; I still stand firm in being a WRITE-IN CANDIDATE! I will not GIVE UP or GIVE IN! As I mentioned before,“IT IS TIME FOR CHANGE-Time for a NEW advocate for OUR children.” I want you all to know that as a “Candidate on Hold”; I will continue to fight this battle so that WE can win the War. I need your continued support.“LET MY VOICE BE YOUR VOICE…..ELECT A NEW ADVOCATE FOR OUR CHILDREN” I have a suggestion for you Ms. Bonds, Keep all of the District 132, 143.5 and Blue Island 130 schools at Eisenhower High School where they belong and you would have 2 High Schools in 218 that would make their AYP. The problem with you and your candidacy Ms Bonds is that you don't realize you are part of the problem. The "Children" of 218 don't need any more battles to rage around them, they need someone smart enough to solve the problems in their neighborhood. What "War" are you fighting anyway?

Addressed all unanswered questions and speculations regarding your non-candidacy? What? Triangulate with community? Fix your own community. Do something about your gangs. Do something about your homeless students. Do something about your failing Grade Schools that impact 218. Stop allowing the Chicago students to jump on 218 buses after they get off the CTA buses right in your neighborhood using Cal Park addresses. The 218 Board Mission statement calls for the district to serve all of the District's Stakeholders and Stakeholders like you reject working with the Board. Is it really illegal to be employed by or associated with School district 218 and have some relationship with a Board Member or is this a Red Herring because you apparently don't know anyone who works for the District? Good luck and good riddance.

You just made a direct insult to all the children, parents and taxpayers of the feeder schools to Eisenhower! Tell me, who made it possible for these board members to serve ALL of our community and children? The taxpayer's, thats who! Who PAYS these administrator's salaries? THE TAXPAYERS, Thats who! I suggest that they get to work and start finding a way to EDUCATE ALL the children of 218 and quit coming up with excuses! The only reason a lot of these board members still have their seats is because of bullying tactics and the only reason these administrators still are employed is because of the board members!! Furthermore what ever the board members and administration are up to, stinks to high heaven and is NOT conducive to education, maybe it is time to start uncovering these FACTS!!! The board members and administration DO NOT OWN THE DISTRICT and it is NOT for them to do what they please!!!

You are so ill-informed. The Calumet Park District 132 and Robbins 143.5 students do not go to Eisenhower. Those students are shipped off to Shepard and Richards and now those schools are failing too. Sorry the truth hurts. Piling the 132 and 143.5 students onto the students from the failing Blue Island 130 Schools and Eisenhower would get scores like the schools on the West Side of Chicago. What would that do for the property values of Blue Island. Maybe you should bus the students from Oak Lawn and Palos Heights over to Eisenhower. Would it be an insult if the Eisenhower actually made progress. The schools on the south east part of 218 are really that bad. Those Districts are driving the scores down. Look at the facts.

Sorry but everything that starts out with a faulty premise usually falls apart. There are 6 Board Members. Which ones are Bullies? Can you name them? If the Board members are bullies what laws have been broken. What inept Administrators need to be changed out? What did they do wrong? The Board Members and the Administration caused the learning problems created by horrible learning environments at schools in Cal Park and Robbins? That is a pretty insulting inference. Please be more specific. What sub-district do you live in?

I am not ill-informed, had they not been shipped off, they would be at Eisenhower, thus those school districts would be feeder schools. You seem to be attacking a race at this point! You are still making excuses, there are very diverse districts within the State of Illinois that have been able to turn around their grades. This Board and administration CAN NOT get the job done. Why don"t they start at the Jr. High level? How about having seventh graders that are having a hard time reading or problems in math being evaluated earlier, and maybe have some of the bright students from the high schools tutor them. High schools have community groups, create another one for this purpose. Maybe a little community charity could go a long way and these students would be more prepared by the time they enter District 218. I see no effort.

Faulty premise, well please explain why two years ago after Pratl
won his seat back by just 20 votes he resigns before being sworn in? The taxpayers had spoken by a mere 20 votes, that Ms. Vahl was their next choice. Why did this board not appoint her? Why did that seat sit empty for two years? Was she not deemed adequate for the six remaining board members and if so why? The taxpayers had spoken and it was their choice. I believe, I used the word bully and not illegal, that was your word. How about unethical? How about all these jobs handed out to board member's and administrator's relatives and friends, is it illegal? No, but very muched abused and again unethical. It is to the point that every position that is filled is by someone that is connected in some manner if you would like a list you can start with these threads and we can add a multitude more names to the list. Should we discuss Oldesen and Sterk? That is a very strange situation, again unethical, what would you as a taxpayer think? Are these board members and administrators in it for the children, are the children their first priority or are they to busy worrying about what benefits they can obtain at the taxpayer's cost? Please stop making excuses for why these children are not improving, the rank fell by 20 spots last year and something needs to be done.

Hueser always functions as a predictable, single-issue advocate, and does not approach any decisions with an open mind, That would be horrible for the City of Blue Island. It is killing District 218. He can’t make strategic choices for the well-being of the district and he has doesn’t show any decision-making ability that requires analysis, the balancing of needs and concerns, or the ability to see the long-term implications of an action. He shows no respect and trust for others, or for the operating rules of the board. He does not understand the community and has no relationship with the public.
This adds to the growing list of concerns for Voters.

There is no second place in winner-take-all elections. Head to head against Pratl, Vahl lost. She was the administration's choice for the seat. Adequate choice you say? She ran a filthy Oak Lawn-style campaign and cost 218 large legal bills with her frivolous recount. Just like the 229 High School Board where she was previously, District 218 is better off without her.
You also seem to think that somehow High School Students can just have learning pumped into their heads with a different formula. It can't. Learning starts at home. Parents are the first teachers. Can these failing kids hire new parents? Somehow you also seem to think one of the Southwest Suburb's largest employers CHSD218 gives jobs away to unqualified individuals and that no one in a hiring capacity should ever be acquainted with any person being interviewed. You must know some very bad employees at 218. I don't. When you want to keep the jobs at home in the 218 communities that is impossible to do.

I see a lot of rationaliztion on your part. "District 218 is better off without Vahl", "A frivolous recount" THIS IS YOUR OPINION! Vahl lost by only 22 votes again the voters spoke, did the board listen to them? "Cost 218 large legal bills" this must explain why for several years the district's attorneys have been paid hundreds of thousands of dollars. "Education pumped into High Schoolers heads with a different formula" What a horrible concept try and change the way the students retain knowledge and possibly increase the graduation rate. "It can't be pumped into the students" well lets not even attempt to help these students, the board and administration have given up! "Learning starts at home" well yeah! What does the district do with the 100% parental contact it claims to have, maybe see how other Districts engage students and parents, again they have given up. "Can these these failing students hire new parents?" Again a direct hit on a community, not all parents of failing students show no interest in their children. "Unqualified individuals and that no one in a hiring capacity should ever be acquainted with" You are the one who used the word unqualified, are we talking about just a few acquaintances or is it a multitude of individuals that are hired. Why don't we let the tax payers decide if they believe there are questions of ethics? Who said anything about keeping District 218 jobs at home, of course this would be impossible to achieve, but for God's sake are only board member's and administrator's relatives and friends the only possible candidates for ALL these positions? I suggest since the board members and administration are not up for the challenge of this district, that perhaps they consider a transfer to a district like New Trier Township, this way maybe it would not be such a challenge for them and they can just sit back and take in all the perks and salaries and increase their pensions without a sweat!!

School Board

Well, this statement makes NO SENSE! "Community charity you say? Why should people in Oak Lawn and Palos Heights pay for problems caused by the Cal Park School Board?" Exactly what kind of money do you think it would cost to set up a tutoring program with a group of bright high schoolers? As for the small cost of implementing such a plan, why doesn't the board look at the 12% budget for administration costs it uses? Other districts seem to get by on MUCH less! No, it is not All of District 218's fault but this is the district that these board members signed on to.They are suppose to serve all the children in the district. The administrators also chose to come and work for this district, perhaps they where unaware of what they where signing onto. Did anybody twist their arms and say they had to? If it is too big of a challenge for them, again I say move on and let new individuals have a shot at it, these children are ineed of fresh ideas and apparently the current board and administration have totally given up. I ask what is their incentive for even sticking around if not to serve ALL the children?

Even with change on the Board (which is responsible for managing the $50 million dollar business of the District) Robbins, Calumet Park and Blue Island will still have Chicago Street Gangs, property values will stay low, and the Grade School Districts will fail. You want the "bright" 218 students to teach the 7th graders in Cal Park to read and to study? And you want a 218 board member to set it up? Did any feeder school board member ask 218 for help with this? Did you ask your Board Member who represents you to set this up? All it would take is one bad experience for you to claim again that the Administration is bad or the Board is corrupt. Did you know that 218 administrators meet regularly with feeder schools to identify at-risk students and remedial study planning? Did you know that 218 administrators provide assistance to feeder school districts with resources, networks and guidance? Do you care that the first thing adults ask at registration is never "Where do I sign my student up for tutoring?" but is "Where do I sign up for free lunches? and "How do I get a waiver for for my fees?" When the kids start being a priority for their families, we will make progress. It all starts at home.
