FULL CITY COUNCIL HEARINGS need to ADDRESS the CONFLICTS of INTEREST, NO BID CONTRACTS, PET PROJECTS, POLITICAL APPOINTMENTS, CONNECTIONS, and ETHICS ISSUES.

Blue Island had been self-insured, and last fiscal year its health care costs totaled $2.1 million, or $200,000 less than what the city will pay under the new deal.
Heuser called that an anomaly and says, "We happened to have a good claim year. But who wants to gamble?" In 2011 and 2012 the city’s health care costs totaled $2.9 million and $2.7 million respectively, he says.
The new contract is with health insurance giant BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois. Mesirow was Blue Island’s broker, essentially acting as a middleman between the city and the insurer. Mesirow’s commission is $39,000, Heuser says.
On Aug. 29, the city council approved the contract with BlueCross BlueShield.
The vote culminated a process that began shortly after the election when city officials, at Heuser’s suggestion, privately decided to switch insurance.
The city could have gone through a competitive bidding process to hire a broker. But instead, Heuser this summer contacted Mesirow’s Andrew Madigan, the son of the powerful Illinois House speaker.
The scenario follows a pattern of Chicago-area towns with direct or indirect ties to the elder Madigan doing business with his son and Mesirow.
In this case, Michael Madigan and Robert Rita are political allies and Robert Rita has strong ties to Blue Island. Political committees controlled by Michael Madigan have donated more than $73,000 to Robert Rita’s campaign funds since 2004, according to the Illinois State Board of Elections.
Andrew Madigan didn’t return calls. A spokesman for Speaker Madigan had no comment.
Robert Rita says he knows Andrew Madigan and even told city officials "Mesirow is a good company." But he denies having lobbied Blue Island to use the firm.
"I care about this town," Robert Rita says. "I want to make sure it’s going in the right direction." But, "I have no involvement in the day-to-day operations."

The Corruption from Calumet Township never ends. If it is not Mark McCombs trying to embezzle three millions dollars, it is Ben Toczyl steeling four hundred thousand dollars from the school children in Calumet Township. Now the patronage jobs given by Attorney Mayor Domingo Vargas, along with the huge pensions. He has not demonstrated a desire to open the Bridges up. No desire whatsoever! Attorney Mayor Vargas only desire, is to bring corrupt Cook County tactics to Blue Island, Illinois. And any Alderman who votes in favor of his policies is doing the same.

The Blue Island City Council must use the bidding process, vet any additional proposed appointments, and secure a line item audit to avoid further financial failures for Blue Island..
Aldermen, Your ward is depending on YOU to hold the line on ALL OF THIS COSTLY NONSENSE to SAVE OUR COMMUNITY!

I can't wait to see which of our aldermen step up to the plate against the very men who stripped them of their authority and told them how to think. My guess is that the ladies will seek some legal authority and show their muscles against these money grabbing thugs.

Discuss, Motion, and Vote

Discuss,
***"Were ALL of the aldermen informed they were about to vote on the series of  "Insider Deals" that did not go out to BID as they should have and given details regarding appointments before they voted?"

Motion,
***“Vague, misleading contracts and terms” "vague and misleading appointees" are among the reasons the city council can cite to suspend recent contracts and appointments.

Vote,
***“To suspend” recent contracts and appointments.
Great Idea

The complaining is because these were all political jobs. Not jobs that they earned on merit. Did they really work for it check out some Pam Zeckman reports from several years ago on how hard they worked

The ladies? That would mean Alderman Buckner would have to show up regularly to council meetings. Ald. Buckner quit replying, you look foolish.

The parade provided Blue Islanders the opportunity to come together and discuss Blue Island politics, current developments, news worthy articles from multiple news sources regarding Madigan - Ritas - Vargas - BIIPS - city jobs - appointments - no bid contracts - the impact, risk to the community, that should not be happening here to the unemployed, under employed taxpayers by failing to follow protocol. Yes, we expected more.
Blue Island expected community service not self service.

We have a lot of nice people, and their families living here, that call Blue Island HOME. They deserve much better than what the Rita trio is giving us.

Calumet Township Supervisor takes over after he puts his own Mother on the ballot to run against Martino. She unfortunately was too ill to perform her duties as alderwoman but he makes her run for Supervisor knowing he'll take over. a family of serving the community my a$$!
