Really? One fireman on a truck shows up? I hope my house doesn't catch fire. I heard this was happening. How can our city cut fire and police?

Nice to see the "can do" attitude of our citizens, who are at the ready to put out their own fires--freakin' unbelievable!!!!!!

BUT, neighboring suburbs are always ready to help out, so what happened here? I saw a fire in Calumet Park a few months ago and there were four neighboring communities, BI included, at that blaze. Please don't tell me that BIFD is putting firefighters at risk like this?

This video was from the early 90's..... The talk of fire districts will reduce the budget however services and manpower will also be cut. Staffing would be reduced to minimum levels and what this video shows would be an everyday occurance. Let's not bury firefighters due to the lack of judgement of certin elected officals

This is an attack on Don Peloquin and his administration by no means any disrespect to our firefighters who put thier lives on the line everytime they go to work!

That is what enrages me-that this firefighter was put in danger with only citizens, untrained, to help. That is not a joke. This is criminal. What if one of the guys with the hose had been hurt or if the floor had collapsed when the fireman entered the building? This would have made the Salgado lawsuit look like peanuts and Blue Island appear even dumber than we already do. Unbelievable.

That fire was over 15 years ago. Do a little research before you start posting. The fire department is staffed and has automatic aid plus mutual aid agreements with surrounding towns. All municipalities are hurting right now and if it bothers all of you so much why don't you attend the nex council meeting and let the Mayor and Alderman know exactly how you feel. Also it would be nice if you developed a plan as to how to pay for additional firemen, maybe contract out the ambulance service, this then would give the board something to consider. Posting on Topix will get you no where.

Why would you cortract out your ambulance service? Ambulance billing brings money into the city, when you contract the ambulance you lose all the billing money as well as have to pay a flat fee per year for a private ambulance service.
This is a joke

maybe you should do a little research before you post.... blue island's fire response is the exact same today as it was then.
