lily boca raton fl wrote: <quoted text>The interesting point about human nature is that they are afraid to stand alone against a group committing heinous or criminal acts; even if they have a moral compass. Case in point; the gang rape of that 15 year old girl in California with all the spectators; it took one girl; who was not there but heard it was happening to call the police; the others were scared. The word on the streets is "snitches get stitches". How many whistleblowers end up losing their jobs and are villified? Why didn't someone have the guts to go to President Bush and say "Mr. President, it's wrong to invade Iraq"? Everyone talked about it after it was too late. That is truly the problem when taking a stand - facing the consequences whatever they may be. And fear is a huge factor, like you said. It's why army officials did not blow the whistle on the Muslim who opened fire. They all knew he was a loose cannon but pointing him out in this sick political correctness climate we find ourselves in could have meant being singled out themselves. This kind of climate has to change if we have any sense left at all. As for Bush and Iraq, many (including myself) did not think it was the wrong thing to do. I told my daughter that it was a good day for America and Iraq when we liberated the Iraqis and took down their leader who everyone believed - including every democrat on capital hill - had WMDs and was a very real potential threat to civilization as a whole. The Iraqis have the promise of a whole new future. They even have comedy reality shows on their televisions now. That would have never happened under Saddam and his regime of terror. They know it, you know it, and I know it.

If you have a beef about them being 'bankrupt', which is bogus, then why didn't you all do something about those terrible government programs all of those years your Party was in power? If you think Medicare is run well, you are nuts. Do you realize how many BILLLIONS of dollars that have gone unrecovered through subrogation by Medicare? They are JUST NOW to correct this problem. Their correction of it is a complete cluster phuck too. They need tort reform and healthcare regulation reform. They don't need to take over healthcare. Those idiots (both parties) in Washington don't have a clue. They have no business doing this. Their track record SUCKS.

Now, if a Republican congress decides to steal from tnose accounts to pay for things like, oh, wars and such, then you have a problem. Remember Gore and his 'lockbox'? Meidcare is not free, there is a monthly mayment and there are deductibles. Hardly wlefare, but please feel free to tell all seniors they'll have to do without. Benefits promised 60 and 70 years in the future paid for by current workers are hardly "funded." Setting aside ones contributions in individual accounts with vested property rights would be "funded." The monthly Medicare payments are wholly inadequate to fund the program, which is paid for by 3.5% out of every workers pocket.

Ok. I believe its right that the decision to abort a pregnancy is the mother's and not the state's. How does that compare with the law in this country and is that law aligned with your moral compass?

As for Afghanistan, how did Iraq work out with no deliberations made by the Commander in Chief and his Secretary of Defense? The all so predictable hyperbole on the right ignores the fact that whatever the President's decision, it's not like troops will just land in Afghanistan next week. Regardless of Obama's final decision, made after much deliberation and much input from a variey of exeprts, no additinal troops would actually be deployed until next Spring at the earliest. So, as usual, the hysteria on the right is just more bloviating and hating. I find your way of thinking very sad. What about the soldiers who are there now fighting for their lives without the reinforcements until next spring? Do you not even see how crazy your argument is to defend Obama's indecision by just that fact alone? It's already been three months. Next spring? How many will die without those reinforcements before then? Are they expected to be sitting ducks until then? You still did not address the very real fact that government panels would decide the criteria for one's quality of life in advanced years the way it was originally written. That is not far from the truth. That was right on the money.

Here's another so you don't get confused by the issue of abortion and go off on a rant. I believe the decision to use marijuana should be up to the individual. How do the laws of this country align with my belief? What's your belief on the subject and is that reflected by the law?

As I told Lily, I use the Roman Catholic Church as an example since it is the most commonly referred to misconception about Christianity on this subject. The Salem witch huntings were a lesson to us all about pointing fingers at those who are innocent and labeling them as something they were not. The word "racist" comes quickly to mind.

As for the fraud, the current legislation addesses that. Tort reform has been enacted in several states (CA, TX) and has had ZERO effect on the cost of healthcare.
