Willow Springs around the Web: Flickr photos of Ananda Kanan retreat

Greg Gebhardt, "Teakwood", has several photos on Flickr of the nearby Ananda Kanan resort. One of the resort's websites writes: "Located in the Ozark Mountains of Southern Missoouri, Ananda Kanan ("Garden of Bliss") is a sustainable rural development project of Ananda Marga, Inc. Ananda Marga is a worldwide spiritual and social service organization, whose members practise meditation, yoga and vegetarianism."

Yeah...what do you expect from someone tht belongs to the RED HAT SOCIETY of WILLOW SPRINGS?

Good Grief! I couldn't believe my eyes that all that is in Howell County, Missouri. Looks like the RAINBOWS are settled and living in Willow Springs has taken them on and probably getting foodstamps and everything else they can get their greedy little hands on out of the Howell county residents that have lived there their entire life.

Get a Grip Queen Di!

No matter what the pictures are of, it is good photography.

Until you know something about this group, it is presumptuous of you to say that they are getting food stamps and everything else in Howell County. I think that you will find that this isn't the case. They take care of their own. They also volunteer in the community with various projects. I have never known of them bothering anyone.

What is the sin in belonging to the Red Hat Society? I belong to several organizations doing volunteer work and belong to the RHS to have fun. I don't think we are harming you or anyone else.

As far as getting a grip.......I've had a grip on my life for several years. I don't need to condemn those around me to make myself feel better.

Queen Di,
The pictures are wonderful. They are such a nice group of people. I dealt with them all the time when I worked at the Chamber and the license office. I remember when my son used to call them wierd o's and druggies etc. That was before he did a paper at school on them and found out what they were about. He was quite impressed then. I reminded him that ignorace is no way to judge someone and not to forget it the next time he judges a person/people.

A cult is a cult is a cult. We'd better start waking up before we're all wearing orange robes.

The orange robes definitely stand out, but what practice of this group do you object to?

Social service?
Meditation?
Yoga?
Vegetarian meals?
Wearing of orange robes?

I have never heard of anything but positive things from this group. If someone knows otherwise, feel free to share. Otherwise, these type of attacks will not be tolerated.

You forgot to mention that their faith is ALTERNATIVE RELIGION.
Aren't they Hindu? Why do they keep it a secret if they are? Don't they pray to Buddha?
Alternative religions aren't necessarily bad or good, but why are they so secretive as to what or who they believe in?
I'm not "attacking" the group, for I'm genuinely interested enough to research this more.

Thanks Patrick. I thought the attack was uncalled for. Also thought his attack on those of us in the Red Hat Society was uncalled for. I can guarantee him that we don't bother anyone.

As far as the Ananda Kanan being Buddist. So what? I think our constitution guarantees everyone the right to choose their religion. I believe in Jesus Christ but I don't condemn my neighbor if he believes differently. I don't think any of their members are out twisting peoples' arms to get them to pray to Budda.

I think Queen Di is confused. The RHS comment was made by Knight from Springfield. The other comment was made by King Charles from Buffalo. Maybe she needs to get her facts straight before she starts slamming people.

Being an editor doesn't mean he has anymore rights on this forum than anyone else. As far as I can tell he hasn't said anthing wrong other than his "won't be tolerated" comment. It's not his or anyone elses place to say what will or won't be tolerated here. It might be different if someone came on here using vulgar language or "attacking" someone in a way that might be dangerous. Otherwise you can say what you want. So speak your mind everyone! And ladies from the Red Hat Society...I think you're great and I especially like your names.

I grew up in WS from birth to 18 years. I saw more strange people than this during an average deer season. WS has always been just a haven for people that were trying to escape somewhere else, or people that were too afraid to leave in the first place.

Wow! Obviously don't like our fair city too much. Sounds like you have escaped. I've never been afraid to leave. I choose not to leave. Where you live is what you make of it.
