The movie is excellent. Many of the songs in the movie are sung by Meridith Sisco who used to live in Willow Springs and teaches part-time for Drury University.

Yea that was pretty awesome to see her on there, Ms. Sisco used to live next door to my mom here in Willow, and we attended her 60th birthday party where her and her friends sang and played country/folk/bluegrass all night, nice woman, she is a writer as well, a woman of many talents.

You must not have been able to comprehend the story. It was an excellent movie!

read the book, if you can. afterward, you will understand why so many think it was horrible. stefkivesgerfam is 100% right. the best part of the movie was when the pig pulled them over and tried to get teardrop to get out. that one line teardrop says explains the people who live this life for real.

I agree. I'm from Howell Co so I've heard the stories about "collinsville". I'm going to check into getting the books. He seems like a cool guy and I love that hes kept his local roots. I know that people get aggravated about the way things are portrayed but that's unfortunately a wide state of the area. Its not everyone, just as we know that all of New York isn't gang bangers and thugs, and it isn't all art museums and fashion. Its just a facet of the community.
As for the movie, I wasn't really entertained. I thought it was rather boring and slow moving. I'm not a movie critic, but it just wasn't for me personally. I'm glad that some enjoyed it though and I wish the author much success.

I both read the book and saw the movie. The writing in Winter's Bone is almost lyrical when it
describes the country and unfortunately quite accurate when it describes the way some of our people live. However, that way of life is a fact
here, just as gang bangers and thugs are in New York.

Like many who saw the movie, I hope that the
outsiders seeing it don't think that everyone in
the Ozarks lives like this. I hope they can see
past the violence to the beauty of the country, the music and the community of family.

Viking, sad but true. As much as we would like to believe that these people don't exist in the Ozarks, they do. On the other hand, not everyone who exists in the Ozarks is like this. I moved here from California in 1966. So many people there thought that everyone here in the Ozarks was like the "Beverly Hillbillies" which was popular at that time. Some were but it definitely was not the norm. LOL

I have read the book and watched the movie. I found the book to be much better but enjoyed the movie. The author is very descriptive. I'm not sure I would have liked the movie if I hadn't read the book first. I had to explain things as they happened in the book to my friend who was watching it with me.

It was actually quiet eerie to see some of these people who resemble people I saw a lot back in the days when I had a bar and hung out in bars. LOL

this movie exposes the rough underbelly of the Ozarks, every place has a not so pretty part to it, i wish that they had shown the pretty parts too

i think teardrop was the best character in the movie an yes his stop with the pig was the very best part of the movie. the book was so much better though because it described her fears and the beauty of the ozarks on such a higer level than the movie. and even if it's not about a particular family here, it is impossible not to read this book and see your neighbors in your head. and they didn't show just the "bad" people here but also the "good" people who were there struggling to survive in an economy/lifestyle where often drugs are the main source of income, unfortunately enough.

I was one of Miss Cisco's students at Drury and she was a wonderful professor. As far as the movie goes I really enjoyed it. Although it started out slow it picked up rather quickly. I have always found that if a book was written based on a movie the book is generally always much better.
