At-risk youths at boys' ranch routinely work at nearby homes

There are 3 comments on the Springfield News-Leader story from Feb 4, 2013, titled At-risk youths at boys' ranch routinely work at nearby homes. In it, Springfield News-Leader reports that:

Ken Ortman, founder of the Lives Under Construction Ranch, near Lampe, said Sunday that at-risk young men from the ranch routinely work under supervision at homes near the ranch, often doing yardwork for the elderly, but he would not say if any had worked at the home where an elderly couple was killed last week.

the LUC boys ranch is a good place for the young boy the problam here is not LUC first why didn't the sheriff look into it when the report was made and second the boys were there in the house next door for 2 days, what are the neighbor's doing. There is a lot more going on, this never should of happen what is missing here is other people getting involed before it is to late

I'm sure it IS a good place for troubled boys & we need many more places for troubled/mentally ill teens (& adults even!). There's no point in blaming neighbors, either - in that part of the country, there are LOTS of people who come & stay at places for vacations, etc. It would be too difficult to say who should be at that house next door, otherwise maybe the murdered people even would have reported them. Just no one person to blame for this tragedy.

Since the teens where under age and also either court ordered to LUC (Lives Under Contruction)Boys Ranch rather than going to Juvi or thier parents gave permission and signed the boys into LUC - that "YES" LUC Boys Ranch was responsible for these teens even if they had run away from the LUC Boys Ranch. How could the parents - one in Texas and one in Tenesse be responsible when they don't even live in Missouri? If I give permission for my under age teen to be taken care of - Then even if the Stone County Sheriff's office was called - LUC Boys Ranch is responsible for these boys!
