Obamacare helps push down N.J. health costs:

When it comes to public policy, we seem to be a nation of grouchy pessimists who are immune to good news.

One example: The federal budget deficit is shrinking faster than at any time since the demobilization after World War II, and yet we pretend we are sliding with Greece into a pit of debt we’ll never climb out of.

Another: Health care costs over the past three years have been rising at just 3.9 percent a year, the lowest rate since the federal government began keeping statistics in 1960. No one is sure why, but if this keeps up over the next decade, he federal government will save $770 billion, employers will save $430 a year on each covered worker, and households will spend $290 less annually on health costs, according to a recent study from Harvard University.

But has Obamacare helped? Without a doubt. And it’s likely to help more as cost-saving features kick in during the next several years.

Republicans will never learn. This health care reform idea is a baby of the Republicans and is in fact doing very very well in Massachusetts. If they were smart they would own it and take credit for it but instead they cry and attempt to stall it every step of the way so when it ends up succeeding, as it will, they will look like the morons that we all already know them to be. When the republicans ruled the white house the country was going to hell in a hand basket. Now the stock market is higher than its ever been, the deficit is shrinking and the housing market is back on the upswing. Wake the f up and quit living in a bubble. All the teabaggers do is moan ,piss, moan, piss, moan !!! blah,blah,blah.........

An IPO is an Initial Public Offering of stock to the public and has nothing to do with internet addresses.

Why is Wal-Mart hiring so many temp workers?
As Wal-Mart (WMT) chief executive Mike Duke said Friday at the company's annual meeting, compliance with the nation's laws "is an absolute." He vowed to "do the right thing" and praised the company's foundation of integrity.
But while Wal-Mart is meeting the letter of the law in a new hiring practice, it may face additional questions about its motives. That's because the retailer is hiring only temporary workers in many locations, a move that Wal-Mart denies is tied to cutting costs.
Yet doing so would allow it to sidestep the need to enroll those employees in company-sponsored health insurance plans under Obamacare....
The move marks the first time the retailer has relied on temps outside of the busy holiday shopping season.

AT&T to force Obama alerts for iPhones with no way to opt out
Not only is Big Brother President Obama watching you, he’s going to start messaging you if you own an iPhone with AT&T service.
AT&T subscribers with an iPhone 4S or 5 using iOS 6.1 or higher are going to start getting presidential alerts on matters of “national importance” whether you want them or not, the Inquisitr reported.
As part of AT&T’s new Wireless Emergency Alerts, once a user updates their operating system, AMBER and Emergency alerts are automatically sent to the phone. However, users have the ability to turn these notification settings off, if desired.
Presidential alerts, though, will not have an opt-out feature. So, if Obama has something to tell you, AT&T has ensured you need to hear it from him no matter what you think.
http://www.bizpacreview.com/2013/06/17/att-to...
What does the FCC have to say about this?

"Why can't consumers block WEAs [Wireless Emergency Alerts] issued by the President?

In passing the WARN Act, Congress allowed participating carriers to offer subscribers the capability to block all WEAs except those issued by the President."

So when was the WARN Act passed?

"Congress Passes Warning, Alert and Response Network Act (WARN Act) as Part of Larger Port Security Bill
- October 05, 2006"

Who was running the government in 2006? Barack Obama?

No, the Republicans controlled the White House and both chambers of Congress.

So why blame Obama for Orwellian measures implemented by Republicans?

The right's ONLY agenda is to blame Obama for anything they think will hurt his approval ratings, whether or not it is really his fault. Lying about the President is SOP these days - by the leadership, by rightwing media, and by the mindless rightwing drones who populate Topix.

Here are the facts about WalMart ...

----------

Wal-Mart's low wages cost taxpayers plenty

Because of the chain's low wages, its workers are often pushed to accept public aid, including food stamps and subsidized housing, according to a report from congressional Democrats.

That means a single Wal-Mart Supercenter store in Wisconsin may require taxpayers to shell out as much as $1.7 million per year -- or nearly $6,000 per employee -- in aid, according to one estimate in the report. A second estimate pegged the cost to taxpayers at a lower $904,542 per Supercenter. The study examined Wal-Mart stores in Wisconsin because of the availability of Medicaid enrollment data for the fourth quarter of 2012.

http://money.msn.com/now/post.aspx...

----------

WalMart has ALWAYS shifted expenses for it's employees healthcare onto the public sector. It's what they've done for years. It has absolutely nothing to do with Obamacare.

Blaming the President for WalMart's outrageous and immoral employment practices is not just blindly partisan, it's fundamentally dishonest. Only a mindless wingnut dupe would swallow that tripe.

Don't people realize the reason Louis Freeh had to "retire" from his "distinguished" government career is he is unethical and immoral. But he continues his dirty, immoral assaults in the private sector for huge payouts. Louis Freeh was bought by dirty PA state government to falsely implicate Joe Paterno and others at the university. Paterno is the new Richard Jewell. He was another private citizen that was attacked and falsely accused by then government employed Louis Freeh. Jewell got millions once the public realized what Freeh had tried to do to him. The same will happen with Paterno. His widow will get millions for the slander that Freeh is attempting to lead against the late coach. Again, Freeh leads an all out government assault on a private citizen to spare the PA state government criminals from punishment.

Wal-Marts new hiring method has absolutely nothing to do with their policy of hiring temporary workers during the holiday season. Walmart’s “low-road” competitive practices hurt not only the company’s 1.3 million employees - who suffer from lost income, poor working conditions and economic insecurity - but it also hurt all American taxpayers. The nation’s largest private-sector employer is also the largest employer of workers - who according to a Bloomberg study earn an average of $8.81 an hour - dependent on food stamps, subsidized housing and child care, government health insurance for low-income individuals, and other forms of public assistance. The Democratic staff of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce recently released a report stating that the poverty wages and poor benefits at a single Walmart store might cost taxpayers as much $1 million per year in higher usage of public-assistance programs by both Walmart employees and their dependents.

Higher wages, better benefits and more full-time jobs at Walmart’s 4,000 stores across the nation, in contrast, would also have a broad-based beneficial economic impact. They would make Walmart workers less reliant on public assistance, help to end the enormous taxpayer subsidy of the world’s largest retailer, which is owned the country’s richest family, and give a much-needed boost to the economy of urban America.

I'm surpised Mitt Romney hasnt bought out the Waltons, it's his kind of business. Reap BIG money while the workers make peanuts. The Waltons and Romneys of the world are destroying this country .
But most people already knew that.

NSA spying flap extends to contents of U.S. phone calls

The National Security Agency has acknowledged in a new classified briefing that it does not need court authorization to listen to domestic phone calls, a participant said....
Not only does this disclosure shed more light on how the NSA's formidable eavesdropping apparatus works domestically, it also suggests the Justice Department has secretly interpreted federal surveillance law to permit thousands of low-ranking analysts to eavesdrop on phone calls.

Of course this nonsense has already been debunked.

----------

Great Moments in Journalism

In case you missed it, there was a big ‘scoop’ on Saturday evening from CNET, purporting to report that Rep. Jerry Nadler revealed that he’d been told in a classified briefing that NSA analysts could choose to listen to domestic phone calls simply on the basis of their decision that they were worth listening to - no warrant, no national security letter.

It caused a minor explosion Saturday evening but pretty quickly people noticed that it was based on a highly ambiguous exchange between Nadler and FBI Director Robert Mueller and that the reporter hadn’t even talked to Nadler to confirm what he meant. But late Saturday evening, the story seemed increasingly shaky and Sunday morning Nadler released a statement appearing to invalidate the whole thing. Yet, CNET tried to brazen it out with a small change to the headline and an update at the end of the article basically pretending that the article still held up.

If you were enjoying your Father’s Day weekend and missed the whole thing, good for you. Another example of how sloppy journalism can misinform, especially when reporters refuse to own up to their mistakes.
