Can anyone recommend a good orthodontist in Caldwell or other surrounding counties? I'm getting ready to get braces for my child and considering the cost and time involved I want to get this right.

Sorry, but most people who post on topix don't even have teeth, much less straight teeth. Maybe go down to that spookhole William Lenoir Middle School and ask some of the parents when they're picking up their kids. They're the only ones in the county who can afford braces.

Dr. Kimberly Gragg in Morganton she is the best. My daughter has been to her for almost 3 years. I checked other orthodontist in the area and I didn't like them at all Dr.Shell being one of them. I went to Dr. Gragg's office and that is where we stayed.

What was it about the other Dr's that you didn't like? I live in Lenoir and don't really want to drive to Morganton/hickory/Boone if I can help it.

Dr. David White in Hickory is great and was $1000 cheaper than other quotes I got. My kid's teeth look great, and I've got another one in braces now. I know several people who use himand they've all been happy.

We used Dr. Shell in Lenoir and he did a great job. He showed my daughter videos of what her teeth would look like if she didn't keep them brushed and she did everything he told her to do. He had told her when he took them off they would whiten them but when they came off they did'nt need whitening. Your child has to listen and put a little work into it while the braces are on. He is also a very nice man.

Hilux first of all the staff is awesome, the atmosphere is great. When you walk into the office you feel like you are at home. In the area where they do the braces each seat has a tv that the patient can watch while they are working, she has a play area for smaller children each year she does a skating or swimming party for her patient's she is a very caring person. I couldn't ask for a better orthodontist. I didn't want to have to drive either but I will go wherever I can get the best treatment for my children. When I took my daughter to Dr Shell I just didn't like the way he handled himself he was wanting to do things to my daughter's teeth that I felt like was not needed thats why I got a second opinion and it was so much better.

My niece is really scared to go to the orthodontist. She has to get braces soon and she really doesn't want them. I don't blame her I wouldn't either. I have never had braces but I can imagine what she must be feeling right now.

I decided on Dr. Shell in Lenoir. My son is 15 and I told him going in for the first time that unless he didn't like something about Dr. Shell that this is where we would go. We met him and liked him. We have been very happy with him and his office staff. Everyone is friendly. I would recommend Dr. Shell to anyone looking to get braces in this area. By the way, I'm one of those "parents picking up their kid" at William Lenoir. As for being the only ones who can pay for it, let me say that I am indeed paying for it. No insurance, no government help, just straight out of my pay each payday. It's painful but worth it in the end.

My daughter doesn't go to William Lenoir and no insurance I paid for it our of my pocket $6,000 later. She has beautiful teeth and would do it again if I had to.

Has anyone here ever gotten their braces off and just rub their teeth with their tongue? I feel like everyone does that and looks in the mirror a lot after having them taken off. I wish I could be an orthodontist just so I could see people's reaction after the braces are taken off. http://www.woosterorthodontics.com

I know exactly what you're talking about, Walker. I remember that I couldn't stop rubbing my teeth for weeks after getting my braces removed. When you get them off, it is hard to believe that you put up with them for so long. I still think that straight teeth are worth it.

Our children have been having an early start with their braces and they are not happy about it. But my wife and I feel like it is the best option for them and they will appreciate what we did when they are in high school and everyone else has braces and they have beautiful straight teeth.

I am surprised that there aren't as many people that need braces because it is normal to have crooked teeth. I was reading that braces is actually a normal thing to get when you are younger because our jaws are smaller leaving our teeth bunched up and causing them to shift around. I think it is interesting that it is perfectly normal to have crooked teeth. I think it would feel better to have nice straight teeth though. http://www.zanoniorthodontics.com/life-with-b...

I think it's important for people to get this work done whenever they can. My brother needed braces when he was younger, but my family didn't have much money. He ended up getting them in college, and it was difficult for him for sure, but he felt so much more secure about his teeth when he was done with it. I think everybody that needs it should look into it regardless of money.
