Sad to see the sudden closure of Magic mart, employees may transfer to Lexngton but another blow to local economy, loss of 40 jobs and tax revenue. With the loss of 70 plus positions in school system and 40 from magic mart, publice and private sector took hits today. Looming dark clouds over Furniture Brands does not bode well.
Do our Raleigh reps care? Does the state govt. want to write us off as a lost cause?

Well I hate to see that as I shop there just to avoid WalMart but most of the people in this county only have themselves to blame over store closings. When you dont support a business in your town it wont stay open just to be nice and employ people. It's just Ironic to see the welfare lard butts waddle into WalMart like herds of cattle then stand around and bitch how the government doesn't care when a local business closes down.

As far as Furniture Brands goes, why do people still see anything they do as a surprise lol. They basically started dismantling Broyhill in the late 90's yet no one even thought to start looking for a replacement industry when the hand writing was all over the walls. At this point losing Magic Mart is a bigger loss than Furniture Brands, there is really nothing left anyways of them.

You want to see places like Magic Mart, Big Lots and Freds stay in business, stop just going to WalMart for everything. People are so lazy they dont want to have to pull themselves out of their cars more than once a day is the problem. Stop being lazy. I am not directly talking to you Pike but people in this county in general.

I probably go to dollar general more than the rest of those places. I rather take a beating with a stick than go to Lenoir wally world.
Furiniture brands outsourced all they could to China and that appears not to have worked out so well for them. I just hate to see any county jobs that are legal to go, Magic mart, furniture brands, wally world or any. Jobs just too hard to come by around here

Yeah I got to DG and Dollar Tree but I really liked Magic Mart. Big Lots is good and so is Freds, I will drive all around to avoid shopping at Wally World. As for FBI, they were just there to milk it for what they could and sell it off or run it under. They were just a massive leach that did this very same thing to many many other companies. They took advantage of the global economy shift to strip and trim companies to be able to compete then when it had made all it could they let it die. The investors walk away fat and happy. its sad to see a single job go away but what is worse is that it seems no one from our tiny county leaders to the highest national level has learned anything from all this. Its happened from town to town coast to coast, those that learned started to adapt and improve, those that didn't are going to die a slow painful death. With no change from the way the Federal and State Government(politicians)does things its an uphill battle that some towns just cant win then couple that with the way a lot of Americans just expect things to change with no change at their level you have a disaster.

Lenoir will turn into a giant sinkhole the economy is already in the hole the town is next. Unless one of those lazy bureaucrats get off their fat arse and get some solar panel companies in here. Solar Farms are the next thing to bring back America if they won't learn kick them where God Split them and vote better liars in. Lol. But get them out their pockets are bulging! P.S. Google won't hire from the Caldwell County unemployment pool because they think everyone here is stupid and inbred "unqualified yet CC gives them Millions of dollars in tax breaks. SMH!!!

I find it amusingly hypocritical that so many bemoan the closing of a store like Magic Mart in the same posts in which they gripe about companies sending jobs overseas. Have you ever looked at the points of origin of the merchandise in stores like Magic Mart, WalMart, Dollar General, and their ilk? You can't have it both ways - keep the jobs at home but buy products that are shipped in from all over the world. I do feel for those who are now joining the ranks of the unemployed; that hurts. However, there's a wacky sort of mindset that goes along with supporting the purveyors of cheap, foreign goods while claiming to detest the companies that bring them in.
In a society obsessed with "stuff," we are willing to sacrifice quality for quantity and craft for convenience. We allow the media and society to tell us that we "need" the latest gizmo when we could do just as well with last year's model. All of the big box stores would be in a world of hurt if we all decided to simplify our lives, work for what we need, and remember that true value lies not in what we own, but in who we are.

Nobody really cares that Magic Mart is gone. There prices where too high for the merchandise they carried anyway. Plus, they had some shitty customer service. Whenever I shopped there a group of about 5-8 employees hung out together near the men's clothing section. They had more employees than customers and still couldn't manage adequate customer service.

All those rude, over weight, and under educated losers can go kick cans. Who cares?
