I didn't think we had to pay anothing to register to vote? Now I'm hearing that we are going to have to get our photos put on our cards. This means we go to the voter's reg. office and register, then have to go pay $10 at the liscense bureau to get them printed out with a photo. Isn't that a lot of work and trouble? What about the young, the old, the college students, etc.? If we register to vote an abscentee ballot can we bypass all of that cost and BS? Opinions please.

Don't believe urban legends...

Some people believe things should be a certain way, and that if they tell enough people it'll actually happen.

Ten dollars is nothing compared to the cost that this last President has cost us who was voted in by people voting multiple times and elected by those that have been deceased for years. I'll pay twenty!

Have you any knowledge if this is true about the photo ID? Do our votes really count?

So, in turn, you think this is a good idea. I hate to think of elections being rigged and people who cheat our system to the point that it does not work as it should.

HUMMMMMMMMM, but what game are you talking about? What's the ulterior motive? Someone pretending to be a person they are not just to make people think this or that is their opinion? Well, it's an anomious posting site, so what does it matter. I don't think they should be anomious or let people use a person's name. I think too many trouble makers are on here to start trouble with someone who they are jealous of. You should not let $10 keep you for voting because that is your legal right in the US.

Excuse me, are you really gail or are you the pot calling the kettle black? What is your problem? Is this topic over your head and you feel you are not apart of an intelligent conversation. If so, smell my finger. LOL

There are quite a lot of you out there like that. Now back to the issue of this thread. Smell my finger you wanna be. Go take you chill pills or get a life where you can stay on the topic at hand. I can and will name a dozen of you troublemakers if you keep on butting in. It isn't who we are answering to but what we are talking about and you don't seem to have the intelligence to belong on a topic that is essential to today's issues.

Is voter ID required in North Carolina?

For most voters, no ID is required. If you are not a first time voter, or at the time of your initial voter registration, you provided your North Carolina driver license number or the last four digits of your social security number and that number was validated, you will not be required to show ID when you vote. Also, you are not required to show your voter card. However, if you are a first-time voter and you did not provide your North Carolina driver license or the last four digits of your social security number when you completed your voter registration application, or one or both of those numbers could not be validated, then you will need to provide ID the first time that you vote. If you are required to show ID, you must provide one the following:
A current and valid photo identification or
A copy of one of the following documents that shows your name and address: a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document.
Please click here to see a complete list of acceptable forms of ID.

Note, the ID that you present does not necessarily need to be a photo ID. Also, it is intended to show proof of person and not proof of residence; thus, there is no requirement that your driver license have your current address. If you will be presenting a form of non-photo ID, such as a utility bill or bank statement, then your ID will need to show your current name and address. A “current” document would be any document that is dated within six months of the date that you are presenting it to an election official.

The requirement for certain first time voters to show ID is a requirement of the Help America Vote Act of 2002. This federal law is not unique to North Carolina. It is a requirement in any state that requires a person to register prior to voting. First-time voters who are required to show ID will have been previously notified of this requirement by their County Board of Elections. If you are a first-time voter who is required to show ID and you do not bring an acceptable form of ID when you present to vote, you will be offered the opportunity to vote a provisional ballot. If you vote a provisional ballot, then you will be responsible for sending or delivering a copy of one of the acceptable forms of ID to the county board of elections within 6 (most elections) or 9 (general elections) days. If you fail to provide the county board of elections with a copy of your ID, then your provisional ballot will not be counted.

But older people and many younger people don't have photo ID or phone bills or power bills, etc.
Can't they register online or vote abscentee and eliminate this?
