It only took half the day to parade him around the county like he was some sort of trophy. Let the poor guy rest in peace!

It did get out of hand and started to take on a circus like atmosphere. People who didn't even know the man went to the viewing. WTF? How voyeuristic is that?

Oh, okay, I'm nuts because I think it's sick for compelete strangers to go gawp at a dead man they didn't know all under the guise of "paying respect".

I'm sure that most of those people didn't even know the guy. They just wanted to be part of something bigger than their puny lives. It was like people who hate Obama were trying to get a glimpse of him when he came through Boone.

Can't people show respect? This was a man who layed down his life man and it seems to me some of you don't deserve the police services in this area

There was a huge outpouring of support which is great. It's so tragic that a young man died needlessly with a wife and unborn child at home. But, why was it necessary for people to gawk at him? It's not a circus, it's a tragedy in which people need to show more respect. I saw plenty of pictures of bystanders watching, and taking pictures, and even guys wearing hats. That's not respectful at all.

Going to gawk at the corpse of someone you don't even know is not "paying respect", it's satisfying your morbid curiosity. I hope his poor wife didn't stand through that whole circus of 2,000+ vulturing through.

He was a public servant in this county. I think most people who went knew either William or his extended family, including me. I saw no one gawking--I saw many paying respect to him and his family. Why not let our community unite in the midst of this tragedy? I've got the answer. Some (maybe most) who think they are the most broad minded, compassionate people are actually extremely narrow-minded...,and pretty annoying,.unless of course you agree with them.

Just remember " The officer that gave you a ticket today" might be the one that die's for you tomorrow!!
