It may be over then but at what cost? Ruin a good man's reputation and hurt the dept. that he has worked so hard to serve just so a few people can show their arrogance. Good job!!

I'm more concerned with the financial issues this man has cost the community. And it seems that only a few are standing up for the guy, while the rest want him gone.

What money has he cost the community that the board hasn't approved? He didn't go out and spend this money himself. He asked and they approved. They could have said "no". This only became an issue when he asked that they replace some of the board members with active firemen. Then the rumors and accusations started.

Does anyone know that this is not the first bunch of bad decisions during this chief's watch? A few years ago there were several very qualified firefighters who left this department when Mr. Parsons was chief. He was hooked up with another troublemaker at that time whose name has been mentioned in a previous post. Mr. Parsons did not use very wise judgment in this matter and it cost the dept. several experienced and very qualified firefighters, some who became career firefighters and officers in surrounding departments because they could not trust the leadership at DGVFD. It's very sad that one or two people with a title and greed and pride can tear down a department that at one time was looked at as one of the best in the county. It has not been so for some years now. Some of the current BOD members were serving when this all took place and one would hope that they would man up and make the changes necessary to not keep making the same bad decisions over and over, get rid of some who have proven to be problems over and over, and hopefully keep the dedicated people this time instead of running them off to other departments! I would ask that those in charge think about about this; Firefighters are taught that life safety is #1 priority. It would seem that it has not been so for some time under this leadership. Something or someone needs to be dismissed because it is very apparent that things aren't right and haven't been for several years now. Some of these people have and will continue to put their own pride, greed and personal agendas before that of life safety and the betterment of the department. My plea to community members attending Tuesday night, is that you will support the BOD in making the changes that need to be made, dismissing those guilty of inappropriate use of YOUR tax dollars, and any that are not their for the right reason, which is to provide service to the community by providing for life safety, incident stabilization and property conservation. Please remember; The dedicated, qualified and willing firefighters that may walk away this time, might very well be the one/s that could save you, your family or your property. Here's an idea that's based along the lines of King Solomon of Israels wisdom; Take away all the pay for the chief and the per call stipends that are paid to the firefighters and see who will still be willing to serve their community!!! That's how it used to be and it was a whole lot easier to tell who was dedicated and who was not. The Book plainly states "the love of money is the root of all sorts of evil." See who is willing to serve without it!!!

I seriously doubt that the meager stipend that the firemen receive is the reason that they became or continue to be firefighters!

At $8.00 a call I don't think so

I will have to agree with former. Take away the money and see who is truly there for the RIGHT reasons. And yes at even a low 8.00 per call it adds up quick. It's also not just per call. It's 8.00 per meeting/training session as well. Which means the department spends roughly 3-4k a quarter on stipend. Just food for thought but I say lets see who really has the heart and dedication to be a true fire fighter. There are 3 reasons DG fire fighters are there..... Some are there to help and serve the community ( thank God and my hats off to them) which is the RIGHT reason. And then there are those that are there just to get to run the red lights and be seen and for the money. So unfortunately inquisitive the money can and does play a part. 8.00 per call and meeting and the 10,000.00 chief salary adds up.

Chief Parsons claims he spent an average of 6.5 hours a day over the past year working for the department. I call BS.

Wonder if there is any documentation to back this up?.....but then again I have it on good authority that there has been quite a bit of false training documentation forged by this same leadership in years past just to prevent the department from being shut down by the state. Mr. Parsons has full knowledge of this, but will no doubt choose to conveniently not recall or just blatantly lie about it. It would also be good to see an investigation into the books and past financial records for the years when former BOD member and treasurer Robert Henson was active. I've gather that reports and money info during this time was vague and not very detailed at best. I think the reason for the paid chief's position and stipends, stemmed at least in part to not being able to keep good people after the previous shake-up. The community never really had a clue as to how close this department came to getting its doors closed. Had it not been for a neighboring departments help it probably would have happened. The real shame here is this current leadership and the other one aforementioned troublemaker (in an earlier post) screwed up that relationship for a time also. Again I plead with you that can straighten this mess out and send the problem people home, or at least out of positions of authority and power,(which is probably all they are there for anyways....try it and see how long they hang around and what trouble they will try to make for the new leadership) and hopefully someone with some ethics, morals and backbone to stand up and weed out the social club and playtime and show some respect to the community and taxpayers that support and depend on them. Again, please make changes now so we all don't have to go through this mess again in a few months. You eventually are going to run out of people that will serve as board members or volunteers if you don't get rid of the ones that need to be gone. If you look at past membership, I bet you will find you've lost more good dedicated people because of just a very few bad ones that no one had the guts to dismiss and send them on their way. Most times the wounds must be cleaned and disinfected before the real healing can start. The sooner and better the cleaning, the faster and better the healing. May God's will be done in the matter.

The chief should be fired for spending tax payers money without approval from the board and the board must have people who are not on the dept so that the firefighters don't run wild and blow all the money
So if all the fire fighters want to serve there community then serve the community and we appreciate you but if you are doing it for your personal gain then the community can't really afford to have you
Wow, I just went back and reread this post. I find it extremely disturbing that 2 people disagreed with this post and one called it clueless? If this was judged this way by people who are currently on the department, then they really do have serious problems!

Just curious, after you dismiss the Chief and all the other VOLUNTEERS, where are you going to find the qualified and trained replacements to fight fires for free.
How about considering term limits to keep the BOD honest, energized, and thinking for the community instead of themselves. I am certain it will be much easier to find qualified folks to sit on the Board, than it will be to find those willing to get out of bed at 3:00 in the morning to fight a fire. I think I have a pretty good idea of what it takes to qualify someone to fight fires, but would be curious what does it take to qualify someone to be on the BOD? I suspect they both require being part of a good ol' boy brotherhood, just two different kinds.
Lived here all my life and never knew of the secret workings of the DGFD BOD. I think they should focus more on publishing their activities where the public can view them.
I will say that if you questioned the current board members and most of the ones that have served in the past few years especially during this chief and the one previous to him, they (BOD) would tell you they were extremely glad when their terms were and/or will be up and there is no way they would ever consider doing it again. Don't take my word for it, look them up and ask them face to face and see what they tell you. The current chief and the one right before him have been nightmares for the department. If things don't get straightened out you won't have anyone willing to serve in either capacity!

Maybe a sad day because it has happened in our community, but a time to clean house, throw out the junk.

To replace the chief, it might be a good idea for qualified people to go to the bod and summit their interest and show that they are truly qualified to carry out the job, if they are getting paid. We don't need another one like we have.

It is just going to be a shame to see hard working, dedicated men and women caught in the crossfire of this mess. There are men and women who have given alot of time and energy to this dept. who are going to be punished becuase they did what they felt was right.

There are people willing but I think the BOD has another agenda.
