Buncombe County Schools tells boy 9 to leave My Little Pony lunch bag at home. Grayson Bruce and his mother say he is being shoved around by school bullies who think his favorite bag is for girls.
"They're taking it a little too far, with punching me, pushing me down, calling me horrible names, stuff that really shouldn't happen,"

So! Should he be asked to leave the bag at home or should the bullies be punished and what if it was a GI-Joe lunch box with Pictures of Guns!

I call it 50/50.
#1 As a responsible parent, something of this nature should have been foreseen and the child should have not been allowed to take the lunchbox to school. Parents use common sense, it is ok to tell your kids no. Talk to your kids, this kind of situation should have been known from day one. I can't beg and stress enough, parents talk to your kids, you can't read a book by looking at the cover and sending it to it's room or to bed.

#2 the school staff is part to blame as we'll. Teachers should have noticed this lunchbox issue way back within the first week of school. Send a note home, have a parent teacher conference, someone buy the poor kid a blank looking lunchbox as a last resort. I know I have been to at least 2 teacher conferences. But don't claim "I didn't know". That just means that your not paying attention to the kids enough. Don't claim "Well we have certain things we have to get done in a day, teachers don't have enough time to deal with things like that". I bet if it was a 9 year old girl sporting a gun you would notice and do something about it. We send or children to school for an education, that also means social behavior skills as well. No one is saying take them one at a time. Just pay attention to the kids. You might find out what is wrong with some of them. A kid that always holds his head down, might be the one that just needs a kind word to pick them up. Words do mean a lot to a kid. Why do you think bullying is so bad for kids? Words do hurt an undeveloped mind, and if unrecognized the kid will have the same submissive mindset their entire life. Don't let them think they are losers make them winners in life. The school has a bullying program, use it, kids should tell, 1 bad apple should not be an excuse for the whole bunch being bad. Pluck the bad ones, wash them off, shine them up, and stick it back out there for all to see. Sooner or later the apple will get ripe and move on.

The kid is obviously Queer and will be picked on the rest of its life for being subhuman. The lunch bag won't make a difference.

Why does it matter what a kid puts food in. the kids beating his ass are ignorant just like their red neck disgusting parents..let somebody hit my kid over a lunch box..the school should be expelling the nasty little red neck kids and leave the poor boy to enjoy his damn lunch..

Hey it takes all kinds but the problem is really with the parents as always. Why would the obviously clueless parents let him take that to school. Were they so sheltered that they thought he wouldn't be picked on? Its not rainbows and unicorns outside no matter how sheltered and liberal their home is, they should prepare their children for that. Kids just do what grownups do in the real world but on a more immature level.

Its no big deal if the kid likes my little pony or he is gay or whatever but he needs to learn real fast that he will face these problems throughout life occasionally. The good thing for him and other so called "nerds" is he will probably grow up to have a successful job and it will all work out for the best. We still need ignorant rednecks and bullies in school so I dont agree with trying to change that. After all we still need people to work at McDonalds, wash my car and dig ditches. I mean what would happen to the mobile home and meth market without the ignorant bully.
