What’s the difference between Nixon and Obama?
The press uncovered the crimes of one and covered up the crimes of the other.

At this point, its outcome appears questionable. If the signup is botched, what will happen when you have a claim? The democrats became focused on selling it and not focused on implementing it or administering it. The republikans became so obsessed with killing it, they failed to offer alternatives. Crying wolf about everything else removed their credibility about any real issue. Doctors, pharmaceuticals and insurance companies are finding a gold mine in taking advantage of the bra hoo ha .
Meanwhile , back on planet Earth, we must still feed, clothe and educate our children, regardless of the head in the sand tea bagger fantasies of utopia ,where things are like they never have been and never will be..

Unfortunately, unlike in your dream world, everyone cannot afford private schools. Unfortunately, unlike in your dream world, todays jobs require education. The public can supply that education less expensively than paying for the incarceration of all the masses of persons who cannot support themselves and would be left with no choice but to rob and steal to survive. There are a few jobs that require no education, but those are being filled with illegal aliens who have been invited here by the NC republikan legislature's jobs law for illegal aliens. That leaves no jobs or alternatives for the uneducated .
I'm sorry your experience in public schools was not positive. The FACT that I see children every day well prepared for college and the work force by public education tell me that your failure in school was due to factors outside the control of the school. Your attitude seems to be the predominant negative factor.

People cannot afford private schools because their income is being forcibly taken in taxes and to enrich those in government. The facts speak for themselves public schools are failing. They are failing because the people running them are not there to teach. These people are there to brain wash our children in to being subservient to a socialist government. Our children are not to think on their own, but to submit to what the state says they should be, think what the state says they should think, like who the state says they should like. Do not listen to your parents the state knows better. The state is lord and master. Public schools have turn into nothing more than a new twist on a fascist idea of Hitler’s youth camps.

"The facts speak for themselves public schools are failing."

My QUALIFIED opinion on that matter:
I took my daughter out of Charlotte public schools last year in the 2nd grade where she was in the top 10% of performing students. After a year in homeschool, she's now performing at the 5th grade level -- an entire YEAR ahead of her peers.(and still improving at an advanced rate) While in public school, she was being held to a "low standard" and performed as such.(Even though she was one of the "best" rated in public school standard.)

I took her out because an administrative snafu caused her to have 5 unexcused absences and we were threatened with criminal prosecution and social services! The principal later apologized and the teacher was chastised for not turning in the excuse letters. But the fact that the school system called social services without even talking to us was alarming!

When you go from public school to homeschool and you commit to making that a full-time job, you'll appreciate how ridiculous the public schools are. Children will learn if you just sit them in an empty room with a book. See the 60-minutes show on unschooling to see how that happens. Public schools many times send your child home with homework and that is when they are taught -- AT HOME!

My wife is not a professional educator and would not make a good professional educator. And with that limitation, we're still kicking butt!

Oh hell. Here we go again with the public schools brain washing children with communistic/socialistic ideas of math, science, reading and writing. I understand that republikans hate those heathen subjects.. Unfortunately, knowledge of reading, writing and arithmetic are necessary to function in modern society. With your attitude, I am surprised that you even became semi literate.

Congratulations on having a home school success story. Individualized instruction to an intelligent child by competent adults is the best possible educational setting. Most frequently that is not the case because it becomes a blind leading the blind analogy where the parent sits and watches TV with the child instead of diligently working on academic development. Most of the home schooled children I have known were pathetically undeveloped both academically and socially .
Outstanding results like this could also be achieved by public schools if each child had their very own teacher instead of being just one name of 35 other students in a class without instructional materials like books, paper, chalk , pencils or even sturdy furniture to sit on. The crowded classes and no instructional materials are so that the governor can have bullet proof windows and a fancy bathroom.

I see your points:

Homeschool is a job and I'm saying it would be hard to fail (measured by public school standards) IF you put in the time.(We have a single TV and only a rabbit ear antenna so that should tell you where our priorities are NOT.)

As well, there are very good homeschool groups out there that are great for socialization. Add to that an active Church youth program and there is no room for naysayers.

Finally, we did homeschool last year with a computer connected to the internet and lessons my wife created every night for the following morning. Almost ZERO budget. We were effective well-beyond public schools. This year we got lazy and bought $900 of curriculum. That's a luxury and gave us more time in the evenings to be free.

Take-away: self-reliance is not only possible, but better. Socializing education does what Socialism does: sets acceptable standards to a lower common denominator and reduces opportunities to maximize potential.(Political fun-bag: Give a Democrat everything they want and you get Socialism.)

For those that don't have the sense to invest into their children, public education is a good thing. For us that do have sense and put in the effort, we're still paying for a system that delivers less-than-good results. I wish I could just opt out of the public education thing entirely. Or if I have to pay for it, I should have some input into how my money is spent. Rather The feds have their say, the State has their say, and then the City/County have their say. The "insignificant" PARENT has what role in how their student is educated in a public school system? A perfect example of government gone bad.

Rest assured, home schooling will not escape the notice of liberals, who will be alarmed at a child not being inculcated with the ideals of political correctness and the worship of government.

You are a lucky and dedicated parent. Lucky in that you have the time to give to your child individualized attention, lucky that you and your wife have the education to be effective in this monumental effort , lucky you have the intelligence to recognize the importance of education to your child's future and the dedication to make it happen..
Millions of other parents work long hours for low pay sometimes at two or more jobs just to provide housing, clothing and food to their children. With little time or in many cases education, they must depend on public schools. The public schools, underfunded with under paid and overworked teachers have only minutes per day per child. They are serving not only as educators, but social workers to hordes of children who are hungry, abused , have emotional problems , family problems , physical disabilities, lack of medical attention and even to juvenile criminals who have been sentenced to return to school by the courts. Children come into class and sleep because they have been kept up all night by drunken hell raising parents. The teachers are the heroes of todays society. They are accomplishing the near impossible with next to nothing in resources. It really ruffles my feathers to hear the constant criticism that their product is not perfect. I know that 99% of them are doing the best they can with what they are given to work with. They have my admiration, respect and any help I can give them..
