I see the typical "mah tax dollars!!!!!1111" crowd is out. Yes, your tax dollars pay for EBT, but EBT is mainly to feed those who can't do for themselves (children, disabled, elderly) or those who are struggling to do for themselves.

What, pray tell, are these people supposed to do? Starve? Or should we say to hell with labor laws and make children work? That's what's wrong with this world, no one has compassion for any situation they aren't in.

Finally, miss me completely with the "poor people should only eat poor people food" BS when the cheapest foods are junk food anyhow. I'm not going to get mad if I see an EBT user buying some damn Hot pockets or whatever when produce prices here are ridiculous and many of them live in food deserts anyhow.

In short, cry harder tears about how you can't afford steak and the EBT user in front of you bought steaks, shrimp, lobsters and paid with an EBT card and left driving off in their BMW with their 10 kids in the back. Oh wait, you didn't see that because it didn't happen. Just another BS story like those little ghetto named children La-A (pronounced La Dash Ah), Oranjello, and Lemonjello people claim one of their relatives know.

It isn't a matter of "can't do for themselves" it is about those who choose not to do for themselves. No one would suggest that these people starve. It is about choices. Where do I choose to spend what funds I have? Is it to buy food for my children or another tattoo? Do I buy food or a smartphone? It's always about choices.

It's not that they buy hot pockets, it's that they buy the name brand hot pockets instead of the generic store brand that is $1 cheaper. Or they grab that $1.50 candy bar when their kid is crying at the checkout line, instead of waiting until they get home (or even out to the car) to give the kid a better and more cost effective snack.

And yes, a lot do buy top-line steaks and stuff because, well, they like steak and it isn't their money being spent...

Actually, the food that is not good for you is cheaper, and trust me, trying to buy a months worth of groceries for a family does not come on an EBT card. People still have to buy groceries to get through the month. And to be honest, I have worked, and at times, I did receive EBT. So I actually paid taxes too. Thanks for being such a inhumane person. Thank God that everyone isn't like the bashers- or else one day, their sick or disabled children might have to starve. Its not about a candy bar or a hot pocket. Its about trying to survive while being humiliated. Screw anyone who claims they have always worked for EVERYTHING...because that is simply not true. Hard work didn't land you your first job- you were given an opportunity. Nice car? Some of you had mom or dad give it to you. And who paid your way while you were in school? You didn't work as a child...come on, get over it. One day an elderly person who lost everything may be in front of you in line- and your little "better than you" comments might push that person over the edge. Careful now! And please wear a sign that tells just how special you are, so that us decent people won't be near you when you run your mouth off at the wrong person.

If you just need a warning in order to find an alternative to feed your kids, why don't you use that alternative to feed your kids anyways and skip welfare in the first place?

You didn't pay taxes and receive EBT. In fact if your income qualifies you for EBT you received a tax refund. So you receive EBT throughout the year at taxpayer expense and then a refund at taxpayer expense. Do not consider yourself a taxpayer. You drain far more from the system than you contribute. You are a receiver not a payer.

I don't most people would claim that they never received a car, money for college, or other benefit from their families. Hell that's what we work so hard to do is provide our children with an advantage in life. If more people did that this conversation would not be taking place.

How long have ebt users been waiting to have cards uploaded on this new NCFAST (I mean slow) thing? My renter has been waiting 2 months. I can see her losing weight because she gives what she has to her kids. I'm helping them out some and she does my yard work for me. To bad she had a sorry loser cheating bum of a husband who run out on her. I'm just wondering how long everybody else has had to wait on their card because of this new system at social service.
It's been 3 months for me.

I suppose all of you judgmental folks think that people WANT to be on ebt??? Sometimes situations force people to be on assistance for a season, don't judge if you have never hit hard times. Lost a job making 55,000 a year and cant get hired anywhere, deadbeat left me with 3 kids and refuses to help in any form.

I am still on leave from work after having a baby who will not take a bottle....in February my stamps were up for renewal and I didn't get them until April. They were up for renewal again last month but I didn't get them today. Is this going to happen every time they are due for renewal? Has anybody had it happen more than once?

Back before food stamps was ever invented, people managed to eat. They may not have had steaks and shrimp but they grew their own veggies and provided for themselves because they knew if they didnt, they wouldnt eat. I cant understand why people dont do this now? Growing a tomato plant or some green beans is not that hard and they can grow in a bucket, flower bed or wherever there is dirt.
Seems alot of people would rather let the tax payers provide for them than work a bit to provide for themselves.

Shove that head a little deeper in the sand. "can't do for themselves (children, disabled, elderly) or those who are struggling to do for themselves." does that include all the ones I see with 300.00 tattoo's? How about the ones who sell them for .50 on the dollar? I DID see the 29 year old living the "rat life" buying lobster and proud of it. "The 29-year-old signed up for SNAP and receives $200 dollars a month in taxpayer money for food. He put it simply,“I don’t got a paycheck coming in, so I qualify.” Greenslate is trained to be a recording engineer, but he told Roberts he has no paycheck because holding down a steady job isn’t for him.

So, it was off to the gourmet section of the grocery store, as Greenslate purchased sushi and lobster with his EBT card.“All paid for by our wonderful tax dollars,” he said, telling Roberts that’s what he typically buys.

“This is the way I want to live and I don’t really see anything changing,” Greenslate said.“It’s free food; it’s awesome.” in one of his songs, he sings,“I ain’t got no motherf****** job; I’d rather be broke, steal and rob.” That’s his dream, and he’s living it. On YOUR dime I might add.

Yeah that's funny how people survived in this country before food stamps. Uncle Sam wasn't there to catch them when they made stupid life decisions and tell them it will be alright. Starving to death on the streets was a good incentive to work hard doing whatever it took to scratch out a few dollars, not be a lazy dumbass or do whatever despite the outcome in life, breed tons of kids without thinking about how to feed them. The government doll has taken away people drive to survive.

. Be careful to be so quick to judge. Even with a degree it can be tough to find a job. Never think it can't happen to me. No one is too tall to fall. Government assistance should be a hand up not a hand out. To be used for a season....not a way of life. Not all people who receive assistance are lazy or uneducated for that matter.

Maybe you shouldn't be so quick to judge as well. I for one am glad that people still have disdain for the type of behavior that seems to plague this nation and you know good and well what I am talking about. I agree with the last and even the most of your statement but you and I both know that the majority of public assistance is abused and unneeded creating a massive draw on public funds to the point it is crippling our budget. The fact is it should infuriate anyone that is legitimately on public assistance and the fact remains public assistance is not a God given right as some people seem to think.

People did have to survive in this country in much much worse times with absolutely no public assistance. If you haven't seen someone abuse the system then you are either lying or never leaving the house. It is very obvious in most cases and whats worse is the lack of shame exhibited by those abusing it, this is where I get angry. Most people who are forced to use this stuff when they really need it do whatever they can to hide it. Just an fyi I have been out of work for months at a time with a degree and not once did I use anything other than unemployment which I had earned working since I was young and my employers had paid.

The system is broken and it is being used as a crutch by many. People see it as a safety net to fall back on when they screw up. Yet others make a complete lifestyle and career out of it. We need more accountability in the system, it shouldn't be easy to get and once on it should be reviewed quarterly with mandatory random drug tests. I've been to the bottom and I survived, scratched and crawled my way back to where I am now. If I find my way back down again I will fight just as hard to make it back out doing what I can to avoid using the system.
