How many more times will you people take a screwing from the furniture industry? They have done this before and will do it again, letting furniture come back here is a mistake, it will always end the same.....face it and move on.

Watch out. The Caldwell commissioners will try to give them another cash incentive to lay off the rest of their workers.

Bet old man Broyhill is rolling over in his grave. He cared about his employees and his company. Now look what happened to all of his hard work. Greed!

News reports indicate that a California "investment" company is looking at purchasing what is left and that Brands "wants to preserve what is left of its retirement obligations". Very often, vulture capitalist buy companies like this just to actually raid the retirement accounts , borrow money for restructuring, give themselves huge bonuses, run up monstrous debt to suppliers and then declare bankruptcy again.. That is how vulture capitalist get rich never working--like Twitt Romney.

All those F Brand workers facing massive layoffs can thank republikans for limiting your unemployment benefits to 20 weeks with a maximum payment of $325 and a two week waiting period. No, I don't know why they have been taking out the unemployment insurance premiums from you checks. The comforting thing is that republikans just passed a jobs bill---for illegal aliens. Good luck getting another job.

Our country is broke and you can blame the demokrats for setting on their duf for the last six years globe trotting all over the world on vacation, and not creating jobs that will create revenue for needed government assist programs. Unemployment benefits were not intended to be a career for those too lazy to work, just those who are wanting a job. My guess that the reason a bill passed for illegals is that they are trying to get some of the demokrat vote at the next election.

So your gripe is that you can't sit on your ass drawing unemployment for more than 20 weeks? Unemployment is intended to hold you over temporarily until you get a new job, 20 weeks is plenty. If you are unemployable it isn't supposed to support you indefinitely.

How about listing all those jobs that are so available. I am sure the laid off F Brands workers are interested and want to work instead of enjoying a life of luxury on $325 per week.

there are plenty of jobs out there. They're just "not good enough", or "beneath you", or not "what you want to do".

The few people who actually understand that, especially when switching career fields, you have to start over and re-earn your stripes have had no problem finding work and rebuilding some resemblance of a decent career. The only problem is when you consider yourself too good to start over as a minimum wage cashier, and you expect unemployment to support you so you don't have to stoop to that level.

OK, thanks. Suppose I am trying to find jobs for the 1000 + unemployed Caldwell citizens who are laid off. So I checked this site but didn't find listing for Lenoir, Granite Falls, Hudson, Blowing Rock, Caja Mountain, Sawmills, Cedar Rock. Hickory and Morganton are listed so , I checked out Hickory, which lists all the wonderful things about Hickory. Now furniture manufacturing workers just do not seem to qualify for the jobs in Engineering, Architecture, Finance, teaching, Management because those jobs require EDUCATION which republikans are out to destroy. That leaves the job categories of : part time, seasonal, temporary and internships (which mostly also requires EDUCATION but little experience). Then I was able to find a few listing of real existing jobs in those categories, BUT NOT 1000. Now add in the
FACT that republikans have invited hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens to our state with the new jobs bill for illegal aliens. That is going to generate lots of competition and low wages for the few low paid unskilled jobs available for honest, hard working, proud North Carolina natives without the EDUCATION which the republikans are out to destroy. Looks like the unemployed will just have to live high on the hog off that $320 per week for 20 weeks and then start eating snowballs and berries and sleeping in the woods.. So what have the NC republicans in the legislature actually done for the average hard working, honest , proud NC native? Answer-- Stuck another arrow up their asses.

OK, duh. I have no trouble hiring temporary , part time or low skilled workers when I need them. I have had people beg me for work even for just one day. The problem for them and the Caldwell area in general is that I do not actually have work for even 10 of them much less 1000.
It really pisses me off at the bastards putting our honest, hard working citizens down because they cannot find work and when they are actively seeking work. The same for the republican legislature which has not only stepped on their faces by cutting unemployment insurance benefits that workers have already paid for in check deductions but then turn around and create a jobs bill for illegal aliens "to help the farmers" when the manufacturing interest that still exist paid the legislature to pass so they do not have to pay in social security for illegals... To put the lazy crackheads label on all the hoes hard working unemployed in our county is wrong .
How about listing some specific jobs which are currently available to help these people rather than playing the republican big me little you bs game.

TSF could be that people don't want to bleed money forever to people who've lost their jobs.

You should stop bitc*ing and run for office or at least go to a county meeting. Take a viable plan to the county, volunteer to help with the "website" for jobs, do something other than running down the Republicans. After a while, it just seems that is the only reason you voice ANY opinion. Caldwell County needs to police it's own economic affairs. Do you see much of that going on???? They would rather depend on the state, who would have to depend on the Feds and the chain goes unbroken, so the economy stays broken.

Exactly, and I do not want to pay forever either. But when I have been paying premiums for insurance and suffer a loss, I do not expect the legislature to suddenly pass a law saying that my insurance company doesn't have to pay. That deduction from your paychecks is called AN UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE PREMIUM.
