I swear he is going to get ran over one of these day, I was coming home last night on the Abington Rd. right in that sharp curve when you first start up and he was right there in the middle of the road dressed like a school girl...I was within inches of knocking his wig off! LOL I wonder how many times he's almost been ran over?

Poor Willard. Between his trauma that left him near death and likely with brain damage and the life/reputation he has had since then ---:(

He told me his story once back in the early 1980s and honestly coming from his point of view his lifestyle since then makes some degree of sense.
I don't believe half of what has been said about him(or even his conviction) but I believe he marches to the beat of a different drummer for sure.

I'm surprised he hasn't been killed or died before now either by accident or by some criminal.

I feel so sorry for him. I watched the video that some teenagers put on youtube of him, and he had some good points. lol

I know he is a little off, but honestly I think they're people in this county, that are WAY more off in the head, then he ever thought about being. He is the least of my worries.

I have always heard that he traded his wife to some animal keeper for a monkey? lol Is that true?

He should be an expert at dodging cars by now! I always wondered what happened when him and the bag lady crossed paths? Wonder if they had a chit chat, or just passed each other by?

I had always heard that he traded her to his brother that lives in Boone for the monkey..ppl say they traded back and forth, could be a rumor but it makes ya wonder after so many ppl tell the same story.. I remember when he had the iguana too wonder what he traded for that!

Willard is the least of my worries too and has been right there in Lenoir since Ames Department Store was where K-Mart then Bi-lo were - long before that probably. I was a kid and I'm in my 40s now. I like to think of him as ahead of his time --- he loved Iguanas when they weren't cool !! LOL!

I don't know what he did or didn't do in his personal and intimate life with his spouse but when I knew them they were devoted t one another. It was AWFUL what happened to him, his brother, and later I think his dad was killed too.

Willard is DIFFERENT but dangerous??? Not likely.
I would much rather sit down with him and talk all day (have done it)than spend a second with some of these anti-social killers(or soon to be killers) now in our midst.

Stay alive Willard --- being alive is the best revenge for those lunatics that hurt you and killed your brother. I don't know who they were - it was before my time.

Willard is really an entertainer at heart, he is quite funny, as many of you know. As a tennager in the 70's and 80's my friends and I would sometimes hang out with him. I can see that he has some mental health issues, but who doesn't?

I agree Willard has as much right to live as anybody and he actually escaped death so I understand the new lease on life he had afterward. Like I said if a person heard his story from his mouth it would make more sense. You're right GV4L --- who doesn't have issues? He is funny and although the original incident was long ago I'm sure it left a lasting effect on him physically and mentally.

What a character !!!!:)
We lost Quincy Payne (bless his heart too)but it will be a sad day when Willard goes.

I haven't ever really talked to Willard but I've heard the stories about what happened to him from people that were around when it happened it was sad..I don't have anything against him...he is strange but I doubt he's a danger to anyone and plus I get a chuckle out of seeing him from time to time unless I'm coming around a sharp curve and he's right there in the road I'd hate to run the poor feller over for real!

Quincy was a good guy..used to talk to him when I cruised uptown back in the early 90's even bought him a bottle from time to time or gave him the one I was working on!

Yes he did...I liked to watch him take peoples cigerette when they walked into the post office, they would lay them on the ashtray outside when they went in, then get it back when they came out..ol' Quincy was quick on that cigerette, by the time they came out he was gone!

Speak of the Devil (so to speak)I just saw Willard lying down in the front yard of a nice home on Pennton Ave. I'm not sure if he was resting and then struggling to get up or what. I didn't recognize him until he raised his head and had his blond/white wig on but then there was no mistaking that face.He was OK of course(for Willard) or I would have stopped.

Quincy --- I can tell you this - no matter what some people thought about him when he got sick and died he had people visiting him while he was in his last days all the time. People just boo-hooed when he died. We should all be so lucky !!:) Sometimes I think it would be fun to be a character.
