Warning concerning making someone your power of attorney.

due to circumstances within my family, I have had to start learning the hard way about the power people have over your life when they become your Power of Attorney.
Power of Attorney gives someone of your choice the right to act as your proxy (representative) in your business, financial, real estate, and sometimes healthcare affairs. The person accepting the POA position can sell your house out from under you if they so choose. They can have you put away in a nursing home if they choose. They can leave you living in squalor and use your money to do what ever they want to do without any ramifications. They can also abandon you without any recourse.
Social Services will try to help what they can by investigating any report of elder abuse, but they can only do so much-such as removing the person from a dangerous/neglectful situation if the person is in immediate danger.
Be doubly cautious about appointing a family member as POA-I was told by someone in a position to know that there is more accountability in the situation for some Joe that walks off the street than there is for a family member.
Demand that the POA maintains strict financial record of what is being done with your money. Demand that the POA be able to justify each and every expenditure as being for you, the person granting the POA status. Demand review of financial records kept by the POA, preferably once a month, but at least every 3 months.
Do not think just because someone is your family member that they will look after your best interests. Do not believe them just because they say they will look after you. Access to extra monies is often a temptation that many cannot stand against.
Be very careful when it comes to appointing someone as Power of Attorney over you!

Really Troll? I mean REALLY? You really want to go there?
Yes, the person in question was a loser-just about lost
everything thanks to a money hungry snake that slithered
in and just waited for an opportunity. That opportunity
happened to be death and the distraction of the people
who had always supported the individual that required thought
a POA was needed at that time.
On my loved one's account though, it's alright because
now there's safety and someone who is willing to fight
tooth and nail.
The ex-POA cannot say the same thing. It's just a matter
of time before the money stolen will be gone as this person
habitually bounces checks and cannot keep a checking account.
Money in a lock box under one's bed doesn't draw much interest
at all. That money will run out and there will be some sob story
through the grape vine of how bad off this person is.
Where the person received help from willing family members in
time's past, the bridge is burned.
Sometimes losers carry the ace up their sleeves for just the
right opportunity to be on the winning side again.

How about taking your foolishness somewhere else. I get a bit tired of you trolls coming along and hijacking threads. Nobody wants to hear your vulgar stupidity, grow up already. Likewise, pay attention to the thread you're posting on-this is about legal aspects people don't know about powers of attorney unless they've had the misfortune of being robbed by one.
Now how about taking your little symbiotic obsessive relationship somewhere other than this thread?

keeping this thread alive because there may be somebody out there who needs to know.
