The woman kept the pen because that's what she's used to, entitlement. Of course, the officer over reacted but that woman was looking for a handout, got none and found her a scum of the earth atty to settle. I'm sure she was going to use the race card if there was not a settlement.

Why would someone deliberatly keep a pen and thereby set up a confrontation unless they had planned beforehand on doing it? Do you really think this was a "spur of the moment" reaction to keep the pen and she just out of the air decided to do it? I doubt it. It's possible that she and others working with her have many of these little tricks to pull. It gets them in the news and makes law enforcement look bad. That's possibly just what they wanted from it.

I like your idea about the $1 a month annuity. I say we make her take public transportaion to the courthouse each month to pick it up and show here idea and then we give her a check.

We should make her attorney come down for his 1/3 of it as well using the same terms using public transportation.

Fuzzy, If you read my post prior to the one you replied to you would see I agree with you completely. In my opinion, she was interfering with an officer attempting to perform his duty and deserved to be arrested. Why on earth the city agreed to pay her off is beyond me. I am sure it had to do with the connection to the NAACP. In essence I think the city simply agreed to pay her $25,000.00 to shut up and go away. Since they agreed to pay her, I think she should get $1.00 a month for 25,000 months.

Maybe we could also require a drug test each time she comes to get a check, and failure to appear for the test or to pick up a check voids the whole deal and she gets prosecuted for the obstruction charge.
