Slavery History Makes Lawmakers Cry

Some senators wept as the gruesome history of the state's legal treatment of black slaves was recounted this morning -- from nailing ears to a post to receive whippings or slaves being described as less than ...

Yeah. and what about what they did to Jesus? Do they cry about that? No...but they take the prayer out of schools , the word "God" out of our Pledge of Allegiance, and they ban Christmas Trees from public places...go figure why the world has gone to hell.

Sorry...just some random thoughts after I read this.

yeah I'm tired of hearing this junk. The black people have an entire month devoted to thier history. Here is the history. They got a ride over from some white folks. Spent years working for their right to stay here, and now cry about their great-great-great uncles past. What about the american indians you dont hear them screamin "Its cause I'm an american indian" yeah black people are also involved with the taking of american indian land. Now they can only live the way of thier ancestors on a small plot of land that the government owns. They are the ones that got the raw deal. They are still suffering.

Not a chance....this is going to be a bigger issue now than it was in history! The black people hold this over our heads enough now as it is and the sad part is we werent there...none of us were! So I suppose now they are going to be able to blame us for what the ancestors did.....I dont have a clue as to why this had to be brought back out...not like the blacks dont accuse us now of making them slaves....and again I will repeat... WE WERE NOT THE ONES WHO WERE AROUND BACK IN THOSE DAYS...BUT ITS OUR FAULT? Go figure!

Sorry guys- but that is like telling the Jews to just "get over" the holocaust. I do not think that the lawmakers getting upset over this is a bad thing. It's human- compassion.
Regardless what your thoughts are on slavery- the atrocities committed against this population were real. Just like the suffering endured during the holocaust. I think I'd be more disturbed if they WERE able to hear this testimony and not even flinch.
Have any of you ever been to the holocaust museum in Washington , DC?
I have. And, yes- it is ancient history....
but it still just as disturbing now as it was then.

You have no idea how many people are thinking the same thing.I personally take offense that my tax dollars have to pay for something my ancestors had nothing to do with...they didn't come to America until 1920!!

Get used to it.
It's not going anywhere. It is unfortunately a truism engrained into the fabric of this country.
Similar to the Germans and their holocaust.
The lawmakers should see the 'evolution' of lawmaking in this state.

TRUE!! The Hebrews were enslaved, beaten and killed....and Christians were fed to the lions FOR SPORT!! In a perfect world, we would ALL learn from the mistakes and cruelty in history. But, if any ONE race is going to be represented here..shouldn't it be the HUMAN RACE?!? Shouldn't we have a World History Month..or a Cruelty of the World Month?? Maybe, just maybe, ALL people would learn something. And, hopefully History would never be repeated. Sitting and crying over atrocities is noble, but wouldn't the time be better spent if this time were used putting our heads together, learning how to PREVENT potential repeats?!?!? Just a thought.

Ok, we get it! It was a bad thing, blah, blah, blah...but during those times, that's how it was, right or wrong.
And just look what you've accomplished since then. Rampant crime, murders, theiving, drugs, multiple offspring that you cannot support, free health care, free food, free housing. What else do you want?!
You may have had it better being property of someone else that could keep you in line.

Well maybe it was a WHITE SENATOR who gave this presentation this morning to the lawmakers. Why do YOU ALL have to say why bring uo the past. Why not bring up the past becuase majority of the post on this thread is not heartfelt. Why do you think someone black brought this up?????? Yes. people was tortured and so was JESUS, which brings me to say this. If you say you care for Jesus in which majority is so selfish in your post, the you will show compasion! This is history!
