Wake up America

Bridgeport, NY

#1 Jul 16, 2013
Why are so many new stores coming to Camden ? A new Byrne dairy , new fastrac , dunkin and now I'm hearing rumors of something going in the old Walters place . People are leaving Camden left and right . Numbers of kids in school are dropping yearly . Why does Camden need more choices ? Not enough people in Camden to support these. This is just going to force others out of business with more empty buildings . Just what we need .

I heard that Aldi's is one of these stores and I, and many other people, will be happy with this move. Tops has been a monopoly for years and I am sick of paying out my nose to get groceries. Maybe businesses will start thinking about charging these ridiculous prices for things and start charging what Camden can afford. America may not be waking up, but Camden finally is. Maybe these new jobs will keep people in Camden. Also,it may finally force those people on welfare to finally get off their asses and get a job so we can stop paying for there forever growing families. Now, they have no excuse for not being able to get a job except that they can't pass the drug test. And if that happens, they should be denied welfare benefits altogether.

Exactly Heather. The state promotes welfare. They allow these lazy asses to sit at home and not seek work. If you did a drug test on them to get their welfare,,I can guarantee at least half of Camden would lose their welfare

If I can get off of the couch and working then who will babysit my litter of cats and kids?

How can I afford a babysitter on a minimum wage paycheck?

It needs to come to an end all the oldies teach newbies how its done. It makes our jobs twice as hard working our butts off while others stay up all night and sleep half the day away while the taxpayer holds a job or alot have two jobs to pay the sitter and make ends meet. Never seen it this bad in over 25 yrs. Back in them days it was an embarrassment to get PA and now it's the norm for all those young, totally capable, abled bodied folks to collect all the freebies and be proud of it. Shame on all of them, shame shame people! No pride or motivation at all. We do need an Aldi's here!

Instead of complaining, criticizing, etc. why not take a positive approach? As others have stated, we need an alternative to TOPS. Remember when we had Super Duper, Acme, and P&C? They all thrived for several years. Let's welcome some new businesses and give it a positive spin rather than the continual negativity posted on this site.

Aldi is out TSC is in ! Thank god . We don't need any more food stores in Camden. One tops and 15 convenient stores are plenty. Maybe another sub shop would be good tho. One that takes my welfare card . Just make sure they deliver so I dont have to get off the couch

How is this bad for Camden? If anything, it's getting people to wake up and smell the roses about their economy. These stores are already offering loads of jobs and are making Camden a more reasonable/viable community.

As a resident for six years and through witness accounts of people who lived here their whole lives, the Board has always tried to protect the "mom and pop" stores from big corporate competition and yet Main Street is dead. I mean, you have that sports bar, Carpenter's, Avicolli's, and Cluster 13. Do you honestly think that'll be enough to rack in the dough or residents? Most likely not. And the good news about Byrne Dairy is that they are getting rid of the eyesore that was the old abandoned Victory building, which I heard took Camden's economy down the crapper when they moved their main storehouse to Rome.

These new stores are good for this community, just give them time to grow. Some of you might want to have a secluded community but times are changing fast and people want jobs and progress. This is the way to do it.

These "mom & pops" stores, businesses wouldn't be so bad if they'd hire someone more than family. You can't get a job in this town because you have to be related or know someone.. kids wouldn't be leaving Camden if it wasn't for this but instead the kids leave & the old people stay. I love Camden but if I can't find a job here I'll have no choice but to go somewhere else.

Well I hope they put a Aldi in Camden. For one we don't need a Byrne dairy & now Fastrac finally want to renovate. How nice three gas stations right next to each other which includes Stewarts. I'm all for what ever they bring to Camden. More jobs! Bring on the gas wars!!!! Yeah!!
..But we need a Aldi. It just not for welfare. If you spend all your hard earn cash in Tops you're nuts....Pulaski has both & they're both doing great!! Aldi Aldi Aldi!!!!

Geez if this is true how much did Tops pay them off. That's aright I'll still drive my 20 miles & go for cheaper not expired food. Aldi & Price chopper

Tops sometimes has good sales & I'll buy it but not I'm living totally around their sales. And they're milk prices are ridiculous. Convenience stores are suppose to be more but are not....Have to pay those old timers that work there & watch you like a hawk. Nah! I don't feel welcome in that store. The young kids are great & some of the newer older people....

I would be happier to see a Walmart SuperCenter come to camden not only will it be very good for the community but we would not have to drive very far for a decent pair of socks or school supplies for our kids. Then there would be plenty of jobs for the one's who collect welfare.
