We are a one income family because of circumstances beyond our control. I am also not happy about paying a higher rate for my electricity or water or gas but there isn't a lot I can do about that either. While the situation is bad and while no administration is perfect, I truly believe that this was not something that could be foreseen. I think you will see the same problems happening in all school districts. I wish you luck wherever you move. If you move to the country it will cost you more for gas driving to town. There are drawbacks to every place. I understand your position but you can live in the city and still be in NL's district. That is what I will probably do. I did ask admin at NL when I transferred my kid, I was told they had the normal fuel situation as everyone but the are NOT 1.2 million in the hole. Paris went through this several times in the last 10 yrs or so. I think they are TOP HEAVY in administration and refuse to get rid of some there. THAT IS WRONG! Trull is behind this and needs to go. I will be sure and vote against anything for them if I am still in district at that time.

I agree, my kid and I drove through NL campus, They are painting parts of the stadium, sealing the roads, etc. It seems as if they have it together.

The state legislature is behind all of the money problems lots of school districts are facing. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with Mr. Trull and PISD.

They hear something, most of the time rumor or a fraction of the truth, and run with it to stir up some crap.

I know about the money BUT, someone dropped the ball on the numbers. Thats what he failed to put in the paper. If it was all on the state, how come NL is in such good shape?

“Our state revenue is capped at 2005-2006 rates, and if you look at a spreadsheet several years out, by 2010 and 2011 we are going to be in trouble if we don’t pass a tax increase,” Prairiland assistant superintendent Buddy Freeman said.
Think of how much things have changed since 2005-2006.

anondad wrote: <quoted text>On top of that, Trull says now they are going to have to raise taxes 13%. WHAT IS HAPPENING THERE? Not to mention the increased electric bills with the new school. What are the chances of getting any large additions to the tax base? 0-none. This is DEFINITELY NOT the time to be building a new school and especially not a new stadium (which as I've said is a luxury). In a few years PISD taxes will be so high, there will be an even bigger move outside of Paris and that will only make things worse for those of us who choose to stay. In addition, there is the expense of the lawsuit Trull got us into with his brillant hiring of the first architects. Don't think for a minute that we won't also be paying for that mistake. That whole deal smelled fishy from the get-go. He had the architects hired before the public even knew a new school was in the works.

Probably never in your eyes, as long as you are having to pay taxes. Has anyone ever thought that the architect might be the one at fault in this situation? Not all blame should be put on Trull.

This is the one of many tax increases we will see in the next few years. Just the cost of keeping up the old buildings would scare me and you if we knew. The rising cost of electric, water, natural gas and the cost of diesel fuel would blow a good budget out of the sky. I would not be surprised if they did not figure 7.00 a gallon for fuel this year. That is 2 times more this year than the bast two years. That is where a lot of our money is going.

I look into the matters that I have questions about and take time to look at the bigger picture. I don't believe that bashing someone on a forum is the way to go to get things accomplished.

The original architect firm should have been fired. They were building an outdated, energy inefficient building because their fee is a percentage of the money spent. Spend more money, get a bigger paycheck. I have a REALLY hard time paying all the taxes and increased bills, too. It would be great if there was a simple answer but there's not. Paul Trull is just the figure head. The school board and other administration positions also govern decisions that are made. Other local school districts may not seem to have the same problem this year, but they will at some point. If North Lamar didn't have some of the same difficulties they wouldn't have proposed to cut their school week down to 4 days not too long ago.

I tell your mind was already made-up before the negative press. I’m sure your child will be successful at NL; after all they’ve got a great foundation from PISD.
