First of all I hope Ste. Genevieve residents will find this discussion that I'm bringing and will post comments.

As a lot of residents know, SGPD Captain Mark Longley got fired a few months ago without certain reason. He was going to retire in a few years. What is going on!? This fact is sad. Also lately, SGPD Officer Brittain got fired without certain reason. He was a DARE officer, who did a great job on DARE program for the children of this town. What is going on!! Currently SGPD has no DARE officer. Well, this area has a bad issue of drug. This isn't definitely good for the community. Chief Bennett must tell us why he kicked those two out. Why was he elected as a police chief anyway? He's lacking experience in law enforcement field to be a police chief. He's got only 3 - 4 year police experience. He should've respected Longley. Seems like lots of people liked Brittain. Lacking experience and using a power...what an idiot. Sick of dirty politics!

First of all, Chief Bennett is appointed, not elected. Second, he has around nine years experience, not 3-4 as stated. he first worked for Ste. Gen in 2000. As for limited experience, the Chief of Police in Ste. Gen has historically been that of a figurehead, with the Mayor, City Manager, and Board of Aldermen making all decisions. Only time will tell if Chief Bennett has what it takes to lead the department!

As for Longley, when he was a sergeant, prior to becoming Captain, if you worked with him, you would know that he was basically retired on duty for the last six years. The only time he would leave the office would be to eat or go home. When assigned calls, he would pass them onto other officers, officers who were already on a call at the time, then write them up for not responding immediately to calls he had reassigned to them! Now many times he was extremely busy, watching a Cardinal game on TV in the comfort of his office or searching the internet for personal business, internet that was paid for by the city and residents of Ste. Gen.
Longley was also assigned the 3 pm-3 am shift, this being so a supervisor was on duty during the busiest time of day/night. He apparently was afraid of the dark because he would adjust his shift, without approval, in order to be home every night before dark, leaving no supervisor on duty. Before you say that he was available if needed, he would seldom answer his phone, let alone come out if needed. Further more, he would fabricate events involving other officers, officers who would not kiss his ass or the chief's, in order to write them up. He was allowed to get away with this because the previous chief let him. Longley ws a stead fast supporter of both Newman and the secretary, Kemper. After he was promoted to assitant chief (Captain), he only got worse. Bennett ended up firing him due to insubordination. Longley frequently refused to follow new department policies set inplace by Chief Bennett and would continually go to the individual aldermen and complain about the chief, making demands that Bennett be replaced. Longley was being forced to follow rules and to actually work, something he had not done for a very long time! As for publically stating why an officer is fired, there is no law, rule, or city ordinance that states the decision must be made public. Infact, no employer anywhere, publically states why an employee has been terminated. Does yours?
Any of the above information can be verified by the officers who worked there during the past several years. Oh and incase your wondering, my information is first hand, is yours?

Impala,

How did you know the Longley's shift if you don't work at Ste Genevieve Police Department or don't have relative working at there? Is this person Mr Bennett or one of his buddies? I don't care who you are. No, I don't. I am Mrs Brittain and I ain't gonna hide who I am like you are. No matter what you say, I still feel sorry for Longley. I'm a human being. With heart. I walk with it. Then, why not? I don't even care if your information is first hand. I've got so many things to hold in my hands. That you can't take away from my fists. But I'm telling you something. I'm not here to justify myself. Are you going to take me to jail if I say I don't trust Ste Genevieve Police no more? I don't really care what he says, what she says. Nothing can beat the truth. I ain't gonna ask Bennett why my husband got fired. I don't have time to sit and think and cry. Screw our lives over until we are gone. I trust my God.
God Bless our friends, neighbors and people who support us in Ste Genevieve. Thank you.

I know what Longley's shift was and what he did/did not do because I worked there for several years. Longley was one of the main reasons I left.

As for being friends with Chief Bennett, I do know him and worked wit him in the past. We are not close friends. I am not defending how he runs the department.

Now, for your husband (if he really is your husband) having been fired from the PD, I do not know your husband and do not know why he was terminated from there. That being said, I DID not mention anything about him, however, I will say that your husband obviously did not work there when Longley was a sergeant and was getting away with what he was doing. As far as Longley getting fired, well, I hate to see anybody lose a job, but, he knew what he was doing and decided to continue his ways. I only tried to enlighten you on some of your mis-information.

As for trusting the Ste, Gen police, that is a decision you have to make. No, I'm "not going to take you to jail" for not trusting them. That is your choice and you have your reasons.

You say that nothing can beat the truth. You are right, however, find out what the truth is before you speak.

Hello everyone, I would like to start by saying as a member of the community, oth the SGPD and the SGSD are a waste a tax dollars. Personally I liked officer Longley bescause he did what he was susposed to and that was PROTECT and SERVE, not f##k with everyone inside city limits after 8pm. Second the city does not need more than 2 officers per shift. I am not sure how many they have but i can tell you there is not enough crime in Ste. Genevieve to have 5 idiots running around at the same time. I could go on and on but whats the use they all suck and they should have kept Longley and Newman. Thank you and have a blessed day.

As a police officer who does not work in Ste Genevieve, you should be lucky. Do you think that the maybe the reason Ste Gen doesn't have enough crime for 5 officers, is because they have 5 officers on duty?

Normally the only people who complain about officers being on duty are those who would like to be out doing something illegal or those who think "Because I Pay Taxes" they don't want too many people on duty.

You drop the number of officers on duty to 1 or 2 and you will see problems.

What is the population of Ste Gen now? Does anyone know?

The population inside city limits is like 4500. Most of the community is elderly or minors. There is not enough to keep all of them busy, that is why we do not need that many on duty at the same time. Since they lack work they are out harassing innocent people. There is a expression "If it aint broke don't fix it", their motto is "If it aint happening make it happen". All they do is f**k with tax paying citizens.

Most of the community is elderly or minors? LMAO!

So does that mean the community is full of elderly people raising kids? I would reply to this post, but come on! That is just ridiculous that you would even type that.

Ok Im not evev going to read the rest of this first but everyone I here that is sayig all cops six or what not your only sayig that cuz u probably got caught doing something u weren't suppsed to be doing. Cops had the right to ride around town and watch people to make sure theycare not doing anything wrong. One of these days ur gonna need help and cops won't be able to be there if there was only two cuz they would probably be busy.
