Morning Call employees... My heart goes out to you all. I know this place is messed up... READ ALL your paperwork... they are sneaky. I'm sure this post will be deleted but its true!
GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN. I'm so sorry most of you probably worked there for a while, if not a life time. Because the MC is what it is read the EXPRESS-TIMES, they treat the workers way better... NO lay-off policy. |

The print newspaper model is definitely under attack from the internet. Craigslist is free. Why would anyone pay the MC for any advertising that can be done on Craigslist for free?
Print newspapers and the related business model are going the way of the dodo bird. |

If you read the article, then you know your statement is inflammatory crap. |
|
|
Who cares. Go out of business if need be MC. Most of your articles suck *ss anyway.
|
|
|
Most of your articles suuuuuuuck *ss along with your stinking censorship.

This can only lead to another increase in subscription costs. The most recent, an amazing 50%, was unjustified and unannounced. It's no wonder folks are seeking their news online these days, as I will continue to do. If I can get local news from talk radio and the internet, why do I need to spend 75 cents on a print copy? And most recently, they've decided to downsize the number of comics, at a time when cartoons are becoming more and more popular? Add ultra-frequent delivery problems to this mix, and our family's days with a print version of this publication are ending soon.

I read most of the news online these days anyway. And I agree with an earlier post, you can post advertisements online for free.
The last advertisement I placed in the MC was for a yard sale.... It cost me $60.00 !!!! |
Hey, if we're to blame the above, why not blame Al Gore's internet? Obviously both comments are equally ridiculous. Truly, however, 200 cable channels and a thriving internet is simply pushing print media everywhere out of business. Wonder why magazines are practically giving away their subscriptions? It is to do anything to keep up their circulation rates, upon which market advertising rates are based. One probably shouldn't be surprised if in five or ten years there is no such thing as a local daily print newspaper. No matter how booming the economy. |

Advertising on Craigslist is not completely free. This is a misstatement of fact. |
The last help wanted ad that I placed ran for three days and cost $400 for about one column inch. Maybe the suits in Chicago should take the hit instead of the people they manage. Newspapers are committing suicide by letting people read their content online for free. "Why buy the cow when the milk is free?" |

This is yet another example of the dumbing down of America... no one has time or the patience to read the news... heaven forbid.
I'm not saying that everything the Call put out was golden.... but the fact that we as a society are losing more and more local news services... and in their place we're getting pre-fabricated corporate news wired out for easy consumption should be alarming to all of us. This is a threat to our democracy. I find it very sad that yet another local paper (even if it's no longer locally owned) is dying. |

More layoffs of Obama campaign staff. This is terrible news.

Witty, but probably will go over many people's heads. |

I hear they are really bad to work for anyway. Probably not a big loss for most of them.
