If this was for television I'd expect people would be OK with the concept. But since these antennas are used from something "different" it makes people afraid. Neighbors: get over it.

Ham radio exists in major part to aid emergency communications. Take a quick look in the news for recent things that have been done by amateur radio owing individuals to help the community and weight that against what you feel is ruining your view.

The FCC in 1985 then again in 1999, 2000, and again in 2001 have a rule to help ham radio operators with laws like this community is considering. Please take a look at PRB-1 and the comments that are made by the FCC.
