Has anyone else gotten water bills that are high and have noticed no one has read their meter for months. The cover for my water meter has not been removed to read for at least 2 months. I am waiting to get that bill that is sky high where they are playing catch up. I went to town hall only to get the run around by Joe Johnson. That guy has issues he kept talking about how he has done so much for the town. I could careless just get my water bill right!

My water bills have never been very consistent. There are some who have bills totaling in the hundreds and still have their water on but if mine isn't paid by the 15th it's sure to be cut off. Have you read the latest TRIBUNE? The front page article concerning the village council and attorney barns is very interesting. Unfortunately the good ol boy system is the real reason for the corruption.

I read the article. What an arrogant idiot! That guy needs to go. He stated that it would be addressed "behind closed doors" and that he doesn't answer to council. He also stated that water bills are not public record! Do he believe the fertilizer he's spewing? I say that sunshine is the best disinfectant! Demand to see what he's hiding and demand it be discussed in an open forum! Remind him that he works for the citizens and that he DOES answer to their representatives the village council! Or just re.love the cancer and start healing! Good luck folks.

We the people have the power, all it would take is for all of us to stand up. The MEDIA is our best choice. The PUCO will tell you the Mayor over sees the billing.(A lot of good that does us). The EPA won't do SHIT for the village because Joe has contacts and forget about the Health Department.
Our only hope is to contact the Media and make it PUBLIC so that our government does it's job for the small towns just as it does for larger cities.
Remember when the town got rid of the police department and everyone came to town hall, the media was there and the Mayor could not coop with it so he quit, but a day later when there was no media around he said he wasn't quitting, that's the power of the people.
We pay too much for water and sewage in mount sterling not to have correct water readings and to have water that we can use. The stuff coming from the water plant is only good to FLUSH A TOILET with!
I read the Madison Press article also and I am asking myself where the HELL is Diane Spradlin at? She use to stand up and fight for us, she even brought some of her milky water to a council meeting and asked Joe Johnson to drink it. Has she joined the ranks of the GOOD OL BOYS?
WTF !!!!!!!!!!

When comes to Mount Sterling;
Don't drink the Koolaid, cause that shit was mixed up with the water"

The people of Mount Sterling need to hold Charley Neff responsible for allowing Joe Johnson run a water department that he has no credentials of ottperating!!!!

I agree Jason. If not criminal its got to be a case of deliberate indifference and malfeasance in office. Where's the oversight? County? State? Feds? Somebody better wake up and fix that town.
I told you so

Someone should copy this post and put it on the Facebook Page “I grew up in Mount Sterling” that way the Mayor, Village Clerk Joe Johnson and every one of them can read it!

FIRST I want to state that this has nothing to do with the businesses that are mentioned.

I was told that when the Thirsty Goat came into town after the other placed caught on fire. That Joe Johnson and the Mayor waived the deposit to turn the water on at the new location. The biggest issue here has nothing to do with helping a new business get set up, it has to do with (if this is true) that the Mayor nor Joe Johnson have the right to break the law by not following rules. This would have to be voted on during a Council Meeting by our elected officials. I feel anyone that is in the mayor’s and Joe Johnson’s position making these kinds of decisions on their own have lost all credentials on everything that they are involved in with our tax revenues.

Another thing I heard from someone that they watched town employees move equipment into the Thirsty Goat when they were getting paid by the town.(If this is true also) I feel that there is a lot of things that the Mayor and Joe Johnson do that are not in the best interest of the community as a whole.

Helping businesses is great but why are the Mayor & Joe Johnson choosing which businesses to help? Did they help the new dog groomer, how about the new beauty shop out by the Laundromat , will they help the donut shop going in?

I feel people who do these kinds of things usually are doing other things that are not legal. Misuse of tax revenue is a BIG NO NO in the State of Ohio whether you are using it to help out a new business without going through the proper channels or if you are using tax revenue for what it was not intended for. The town is full of rumors of how things are ran by these 2 and when you some of it first hand you start to realize people are not making this stuff up, it is happening in our community. No wonder our town is in the shape it is!

Don’t know if what I was told is true but the people that told me this were pissed enough that they said they were tired of Joe Johnson thinking he could do anything and said they both were calling 10 News for the water bill reading and to have them check on other matters.

There's also a council meeting Wednesday 2/5/14 during the day (while everyone is working) wonder what the Mayor and Joe Johnson are trying to put through?

What are the credentials that Joe Johnson has to run the water treatment plant? Are they displayed in town hall? Going to be going in to check. He has to answer to who hired him and who signs his check, so who does he think that is? I use K-cup coffee pot which brews a single cup of coffee at a time, only use a couple cups a day. The reservoir container holds several cups. I went to brew a cup and looked at the water leval because it was getting low. It had green algae in the bottom growing so I do not think our water is being treated properly. Try it yourself, put some water in a clear container and set it aside for a few days and see what is growing in the bottom. Almost made me yuck up because I had been drinking from it. Now I use only bottled water for coffee. I had used a Brita filter on the Sterling water that grew the algae so it was not able to filter out the crap that sterling allows in our water. The article in the Tribune said if someone rents and does not pay their water bill and then tells the village worker that comes to turn it off that he will not give him permission to turn it off so they leave it on UNPAID. Do you think that would work for a home owner to not allow them permission to come on the property? If the village workers are so dumb they do not notify the property owner of that so he can give permission to turn it off (which is suppose to happen per by laws) then the village needs to eat that cost. Maybe then they will hire someone with brains and common sense to run the water department.

I would like to clear the air here joe Johnson did not waive the deposit of the water he actually paid for it out of his own pocket and yes I belive he would do the same for any business in town as for moving equipment a couple guys did help move out a piece of equipment that was here but it was at 7am so I believe it was before their shift im sorry if this upsets people in town but I really just thought joe Johnson and his crew was just trying to help me get back on my feet not trying to screw the town out of anything. I support the town and I have had great support from the town and I hope it continues! I like it here in town and hope to stay a very long time! I believe in paying it forward so if any of the other business in town needs a helping hand come to the thirsty goat ill help all I can ! thank you all

Why would Johnson pay this out of his own pocket? He has not given the impression of Mr. Nice Guy with his smart mouth answers so where is the receipt for the payment, i think this should be checked out down at town hall. glad you like Mt. Sterling but tough competion with Ben & Joys for some unknown reason. Good Luck.

We just like everyone and everything to be treated equal by all those on town council, mayor, or work in an office that requires payment from the tax money of the town. Now why would that be wrong???We also want all positions for the city to have the education/requirements needed or in the job description for said job. So, is that too much to ask? Heather Rice, you keep on looking out for us and maybe it will remind some of the others on council why they were elected too. If not, then they should look to be off town council next election as I think people are getting fed up with status quo.

If you can't see the problem then You have a problem. Is he going to do that same favor for anyone coming to Sterling that needs the same fee paid? If not he is showing favortism. Plus it was not his decision to make alone, should have been voted on by council to wave the fee or he could have had someone else besides himself pay it that is not employed by Sterling. Its called conflict of interest.

I totally agree with your comment, Surprise!

I was at the Family Dollar last week and heard what had happened at the council meeting I also heard from another source that was at the council meeting the same thing that I was told at Family Dollar. The press sure didn't cover what really happened is what I am getting.

It's nice to see someone on council that has the passion for the community like Heather Rice has. Maybe we can get her husband to run next election we need people that will look out for us taxpayers.
