What are these children thinking? Some people need to learn how to take better care of their children and be there when they need someone. Can't these parents take some time out to try and be their for the children. If you didn't want them i'm sure some other family would love to raise the child.

I fully agree about the lack of parenting, but I question some of the wording in this article. Stockpiling "gasoline and propane"?? That's awfully incendiary wording (get it? incendiary?) for pretty common fuels.

Basically the kid had fuses. That's the most exotic item on that list. If this is terrorism, this is some of the most BROKE DOWN terrorism I've ever heard. Plus the kid wasn't going to do anything for another 6 months. Wouldn't it be annoying tripping over all those gasoline canisters in your room for that long?

"Monroe, 45 miles northwest of New York City"

That's "upstate?" Sounds more like an hour's drive from NYC to me.

Who writes these things????????

Sue, that is considered "upstate" in NYC. Get out of the sticks once in a while and you would know that :-)

I donno, but here’s my guess:

The kid is white. And the article was written by a white person. And it’s about an incident that occurred in white society. Otherwise, they point out the abnormalities (i.e. Black, MexiRican, retarded, space alien, etc.).

Just my guess… ;)

everything north west of new york city is upstate. I love how, even when you are wrong, you try to pick apart the writing...... you are a sad person with too much time on your hands.

The boundry between "upstate" and the rest of the state is just a matter of opinion, no official boundry or definition has ever been stated.
This is in fact the one accepted by the Internal Revenue Service ... traditionally residents of the upper 53 counties sent their tax returns to Andover, Massachusetts for processing; while downstate returns were handled in the Long Island hamlet of Holtsville

I'm a parent at Monroe-Woodbury, this area is pretty safe to raise a family, evendough we can find lazy/crazy/problematic people everywhere, the community is very family oriented. A lot of extracurricular activities are offered in the school plus a handfull of sports ranging from soccer to lacrosse. It's awful that this incident happened, I'm glad they caught him on time, but now we have to pray that nobody else decide to harm our kids. Thank you Reality 01 for the explanation about the difference between upstate/adownstate NY. To me is sometimes just less than an hour drive to the belly buttom of the world, called NYC...Love the country feeling yet close to all the action that NYC has to offer.
