Public Forum: Gender Inequality
On November 14, 2013, students from Indiana University hosted a gender inequality open forum at the Bloomington Public Library. This forum consisted of students from a democratic deliberation class, members from the traditionalist youth network, LGBT advocates, and Indiana University faculty.
The debate amongst opposing parties because heated as members from the traditional youth advocated against LGBT rights and female power positions. While there was no direct consensus between each individual group, the diverse range of groups made for an interesting contrast. The different groups were also able to better understand the problems and concerns of opposing parties. Gender inequality remains a highly controversial topic, especially in Bloomington due to the liberal nature of the county in stark comparison to the overall conservative nature of the state of Indiana.
