Re: The Sentencing of Bernie LaZar Hoffman aka Tony Alamo
Dear Honorable Harry F. Barnes:
In keeping up with above-mentioned story and, in light of Alamo’s plea of leniency and “mercy,” this is a plea for your consideration to please NOT show leniency or “mercy” on this man. Perhaps this is not becoming of a God-fearing woman like myself but, according to the bible, in eternity, even God Himself will not show mercy to the unrepentant and rejecting heart. Taking into consideration our humanity and that we are not God, this man has clearly and in heinous ways broken the laws for forty years and, justified himself in doing so. This is not indicative of a man with a conscience toward his fellow man, let alone the laws of God or man. In light of his lack of conscience toward our laws prohibiting the heinous behavior that he was convicted of committing, if leniency is shown to him and he is set free at any time during his life, he will disregard any court orders given to him.
Instead of denying allegations, Alamo perverts God’s Holy Word to justify his behavior of statutory rape and bloody abuse. This is not the portrayal of repentance and remorsefulness, rather, is the portrayal of a man who, if still free, would still be committing these heinous crimes. It is also the portrayal of a man who, if shown mercy and given a lighter sentence that will set him free, will go back to committing these heinous crimes and, perhaps worse – the unthinkable – revenge (perhaps violent?) against those who blew the horn on him (since we know of his armed body-guards and his renowned violent behavior). Perhaps he shall also become heavier-handed with his still weak-minded followers than he was before his arrest or, more frequently rape the children to make up for time lost during his incarceration. Walking on egg-shells to honor a court order will not be an option in his mind.
Speaking on a personal level, I have never been a member of Alamo’s “church,” and, until about a year before his capture, I was completely unaware of what was going on in the church. Isn’t forty years of torture, abuse, mental anguish, polygamy and child molesting enough? He has spent most of his life preying on the weak-minded and helpless – showing no mercy. There are still people suffering at his hand, howbeit inadvertently. I speak of the situation with John Kolbeck who, he and his wife has taken someone’s children and Alamo does nothing to help the situation. These actions and more are not the actions of a remorseful man.
It is my petition to you, Honorable Barnes, to please take into consideration what he has done and what he is capable of doing and to make sure he is never allowed to hurt anyone, again.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
