Full story: Columbus Dispatch

A cousin in Blissfield, Mich., recently mailed me a package with a copy of a story in the weekly Advance about the 100th anniversary of Gilson Hardware.

Gilson's is a gem! The store hires great staff who offer excellent service and thoughtful, practical advice. As a resident of Blissfield I sometimes have to -- reluctantly -- go to the next town over to a "big box" store, but I always try Gilsons first. Thanks for the great piece!

Nancy, thanks for your nice article! Our store is actually called "Lehman's." You can see the website at http://www.lehmans.com . Lehman Brothers is that accounting firm in New York that helped create the current economic crisis...I'm sure not connected to them!

My father remembers Bill fondly. We still have one of the Bostwick Braun catalogs he dropped off at our store on display there. I would love to have you visit again. If you let me know when you come I'll show you where the catalog is displayed.

PS - We may even have a yard stick you like.:-)

Sounds like a great place. I worked for many years in a local True Value hardware store back in the 80's and early 90's. It was quite an education! It's too bad that very few of these types of hardware stores still exist today.

There is a small old time hardware store in Lynchburg OH. It has the creaky wooden floors and a good "ole time" smell that only some of us can appreciate. Open bins and you can find unusual items.
