Young Baptist preachers chart different courses
By Eric Gorski Associated Press Friday, July 4, 2008 J.D. Greear persuaded his church to drop the word "Baptist" from its name, sell its historic building in Durham, N.C., and move into a local high school. Greear preaches in an untucked collared shirt, sportcoat and jeans. He generally avoids politics but signed a statement urging action on global warming. Eric Hankins preaches in a suit and tie at First Baptist Church in Oxford, Miss., where hymns like "Brethren, We Have Met to Worship" are the norm. Change for Hankins means adopting a new discipleship curriculum. He questions whether humans cause climate change. Both men are Southern Baptist pastors in their 30s and lead growing congregations. Both are theologically conservative and engaged in their denomination enough to travel to Indianapolis for its annual meeting and pastors' conference. Yet their different approaches are part of an ongoing debate about the future of the 16.2 million-member Southern Baptist Convention: Is there room for the guy in the suit and the guy in the jeans? Should pastors shun politics or hand out voters' guides? Is saving the environment an issue to champion or a dangerous detour? The nation's largest Protestant denomination is at a crossroads. After five decades of growth, membership fell last year and baptisms are dropping at an even faster clip. A growing number of Baptists see the apparent lack of relevancy -- and are blaming not secular America and liberals but themselves for the problem. read more here: http://reporternews.com/news/2008/jul/04/youn... |

Texas issues warning on Galveston Bay fish 12:00 AM CDT on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 By CHRISTY HOPPE / The Dallas Morning News choppe@dallasnews.com AUSTIN – State health officials issued a warning Tuesday against eating spotted seatrout and catfish from Galveston Bay, saying the two fish show high levels of dioxins and PCBs. The Texas Department of State Health Services advised that pregnant women and children not eat seatrout and catfish taken from Galveston Bay, and that other adults limit consumption to one 8-ounce portion a month. The advisory warning came after a two-year study that also cleared red drum, black drum and flounder as safe to eat. Polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs, are industrial chemicals that were banned in 1979. Dioxins are the unintentional byproducts of industrial and chemical production and incomplete combustion. The upper regions of Galveston Bay along with the Houston Ship Channel have had fish consumption warnings since 1990, but the ban has now been extended south to include all of Galveston Bay along with Chocolate, East, West and Trinity bays. Most catfish available in stores and restaurants are produced at fish farms. Seatrout – or speckled trout – are highly sought by sport fishermen. "It's a significant number" of recreational fishermen who will be affected, said Bill Balboa, a fisheries biologist in Galveston for Texas Parks and Wildlife. "It's kind of a wake-up call to everybody," he said. source: http://www.dallasnews.com |

If you notice, the only reason steve is posting to this thread is to keep it and most of his others from going dormant and sliding to the bottom of the list where they belong. Pretty sad, I would say. It looks as if steves little wiener roast didnt have anybody show up. Guess nobody cares, or they realize that there is a nutjob that started and keeps this thread going.

Wind power Turbine time
Jul 17th 2008 | AUSTIN From The Economist A rosy future for wind AMERICANS spend $700 billion a year on foreign oil. According to one observer, this is an addiction, a crisis, and a trap. The country must pursue alternative energy sources as fiercely as it once shot for the moon. So far, so much liberal boilerplate. The critic in question, however, is a Republican oilman: T. Boone Pickens. As he puts it, in an Okie drawl:“I’ve been an oilman all my life. But this is one emergency we can’t drill our way out of.” He wants America to make a huge investment in wind-power infrastructure. During this election season, he will personally spend $58m to make the case. read more here: http://www.economist.com/world/na/displaystor... |

1 07:07 AM CDT on Thursday, August 28, 2008 By ROBERT T. GARRETT / The Dallas Morning News rtgarrett@dallasnews.com DENVER – Waco congressman Chet Edwards assailed John McCain as no friend of veterans Wednesday, while hailing Barack Obama as the champion that veterans and military families need. Capping seven days that most politicians can only dream of, Mr. Edwards snagged a prime-time speaking slot at the Democrats' convention. With a video montage of the Alamo as his backdrop, he got four minutes to tout Mr. Obama's record on veterans' health and education benefits. "Barack Obama will responsibly bring our troops home from Iraq, and he'll make better health care and benefits for veterans a higher priority than tax cuts for Exxon-Mobil and the wealthiest Americans," Mr. Edwards said. "Now imagine that – that's the change we need and ... our veterans deserve." read more here: http://www.dallasnews.com |

It looks like the Lord is going to pass judgment on New Orleans once again. Perhaps he has some unfinished business there.
Last time the Lord drowned 1000 people, 70% of whom were over the age of 70. I forget exactly why God answered Pastor Hagee's prayers that year. Something about sin. I was hoping the morbidly obese, translucently pasty-faced, delusional evangelical pastor would explain his reasoning for calling on Father God to chastise New Orleans once more. Maybe he wants to prove to George McCain and Grandma Palin that he can still marshall divine forces against our sinful enemies.(If not abroad, at least here at home.) |

Your not masquerading very well steve, its apparent who the real Hezekiah is. Your true colors are obvious, have been for some time, but may not be for those who have visited these forums less frequently. Why dont you take your anti american, atheistic, liberal homosexual, narrow minded dumbass views and shove them up your ass. If there is anyone that is more stupid about what is going on in our country and how to vote, it is demonstrated by you. |
Barack Obama's Democratic National Convention Acceptance Speech in Denver Has Christians Praying for Rain Anaylizing Fruitcake and Biblically Proportioned Rainfall n what may be the most ridiculous act yet in the political morass that has become the American presidential campaign, the religious fundamentalist group Focus On Family had placed a video on their website calling on god to rain on Barack Obama's Democratic nomination acceptance speech in Denver on August 28. It seems that Focus On Family, which is led by James Dobson, has called down a flood from on high to deluge the 45th Democratic National Convention, but more specifically Mile High Stadium where Senator Barack Obama is scheduled to make his speech. An umbrella-wielding Stuard Shepard, a member of Focus On Family, posted a video on the organization's website that asked for everyone to pray for "abundant, torrential" rains to flood out the Democrats. read more here: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/9828... |

1 Anyway, Bible scholars such as myself know that God isn't all that precise when he starts to smite people. As sure as you tell Him to rain on Mile High Stadium on Thursday to ruin the Democrats party, He sends a hurricane a week late to the wrong end of the Mississippi and dampens the Republican excitement. This kind of thing happens all too frequently. When plotting mischief, it's best to just leave God out of it. |

1 Quotes from this interesting video: Q: Wouldn't that mean your activities could lead to people dying? A: Our activities can lead to people dying. We are aware of that. But to spend eternity in Heaven and not in Hell -- seems like a good deal. Christian fundamentalists have come here, with the support of the American military. These politically motivated missionaries support the tensions and hostility. Radical Christians as disguoised humanitarians want to convert Iraq. It's a religious war. They don't hate us. They hate our God. They are believing in a lie. We have to defeat them. They want to kill us. They have killed 3000 of our people. All Iraqis should be converted. All of the Middle East, as a matter of fact. It's a spiritual war. Politics and religion are being joined here. That reminds me of Al Qaeda. |

I wish I had the delusional faith of James Dobson. I mean, I regularly pray to Jesus for catastrophe to befall Republicans, but I have never been so bold as to pinpoint a stadium or a moment in time. You are not even remotely close to being a bible scholar, you should not even mention bible and scholar in the same breath, and then rattle off this mindless, satanic bunch of BS. Your an absolute fool if you think that anyone with any sense would buy that load of shit! If you think you know so much about the bible, then why dont you practice what it says. I do believe I recall one of your previous posts where you were just itching to get at these so called "Bible Beaters", which really shows what your intentions are here. You are a liar, and a distorter of the truth, just like your alter ego sock puppet steve is. Take your self anointed bible scholar BS and you can shove it up steve's ass! |

I forgive you, Sheman, for your blasphemy. But Jesus is not pleased with your carnal thoughts. I know because I am a Bible scholar. Jesus says I should turn the other cheek.
But just because I turn a cheek to you, I don't want you to sport an erection. It is very rude behavior for you to fondle yourself while thinking of Jesus. |
