Dozens in Texas Town Report Seeing UFO

By ANGELA K. BROWN
STEPHENVILLE, Texas (AP)— In this farming community where nightfall usually brings clear, starry skies, residents are abuzz over reported sightings of what many believe is a UFO.
Several dozen people — including a pilot, county constable and business owners — insist they have seen a large silent object with bright lights flying low and fast. Some reported seeing fighter jets chasing it.

"People wonder what in the world it is because this is the Bible Belt, and everyone is afraid it's the end of times," said Steve Allen, a freight company owner and pilot who said the object he saw last week was a mile long and half a mile wide. "It was positively, absolutely nothing from these parts."

Strange lights over Stephenville? There's more to the story
BY BUD KENNEDY
STAR-TELEGRAM STAFF WRITER

UFO team asks if the truth is out there - in Stephenville
Scottish evangelist predicts a 'stunning' light over Texas
Stephenville's latest close encounter is weirder than any light in the sky.

Stephenville is under assault -- not by Martians, but by people hunting them.

The phones haven't stopped ringing at Steve Allen's trucking company in nearby Glen Rose. He's the guy who was out Jan. 8 watching the sunset at a friend's house near Selden when they all saw some weird flashing lights.

Now he can't work for all the phone calls from London and elsewhere around the world.

Some of the callers are scarier than space aliens.

"I'll be OK," he joked Tuesday, "as long as I don't get abducted."

I couldn't even get a call through to county Constable Leroy Gaitan. He told reporters that he and his son, 8, saw the lights from nearby Dublin.

All I can say is, if space aliens were hovering over Texas last week, maybe that explains the Cowboys.

The Stephenville newspaper, the Empire-Tribune, broke the story Thursday. But as far as I can tell, absolutely nobody in Texas paid attention until after Dallas was knocked out of the playoffs.

The news finally went national Monday.

But technically, we all got scooped.

On Dec. 11 -- more than a month ago -- a Scottish writer and evangelist wrote exactly what would happen.

Catherine Brown, 43 and a mother of four, wrote about a heavenly vision predicting a "stunning star" over Texas that would make "front-line news."

I'm not kidding.

She posted this last month on the Web site for Elijah List Ministries, an Oregon-based publishing house that seems like sort of a clearinghouse for end-of-the-world religious prophecy:

"I see Texas ablaze and a stunning star, like the star from the East rising over the land. I hear the Spirit of the Lord saying to:'Watch for cosmic signs and wonders in Texas.'

"He said there will be a cosmological phenomenon that scientists cannot explain, and the media will carry as front-line news.

"People will begin to ask about 'the Light.'... For a period of four months -- from Christmas to Easter -- there will be a window of opportunity for salvations, signs, healings and wonders in Texas."

Brown has never seen Texas in her life, she said Tuesday by phone from her office at Gatekeepers Global Ministries in Ayrshire, Scotland.

"I saw this huge light over Texas," she said. "It was actually just a short vision. When I saw the news today, I thought,'How interesting.'"

In 2003, she predicted a rare earthquake in the Netherlands.

In Glen Rose, Allen said he hopes to talk with Brown. "I knew it wasn't like anything we've ever seen before in these parts," said Allen, a pilot and a greeter at a Baptist church near Chalk Mountain. "It definitely gave you a biblical flashback."

U.S. Baptist group urges action on global warming

Mon Mar 10, 2008 6:31pm GMT
By Michael Conlon, Religion Writer

CHICAGO (Reuters)- Prominent members of the Southern Baptist Convention said on Monday that the church, the largest U.S. Protestant denomination, has been too timid to speak out against global warming and must start taking strong stands.

The statement marks a significant shift in the way one of the country's most conservative churches regards climate change. If the membership at large accepts it, there could be political implications since evangelical Christians are a significant base for the Republican Party which has been wary of taking action on the issue.

Environmental and climate changes "have not always been treated with pressing concern as major issues. Indeed some of us have required considerable convincing ...," said a statement issued by 46 church members including the current and two former presidents of the 16-million-member denomination.

"We believe our current denominational engagement with these issues have been often been too timid, failing to produce a unified moral voice," they said in a statement issued after study by their ad hoc group.

"Our cautious response to these issues in the face of mounting evidence may be seen by the world as uncaring, reckless and ill-informed. The time for timidity regarding God's creation is no more," the group said.

Evangelical Christians in the United States have been paying increasing attention to environmental issues in recent years, citing what they see as a moral imperative for proper stewardship of God's creation.

Polls have shown that evangelicals want a broader agenda that goes beyond the recent focus on abortion and gay rights to include issues such as the environment. But they are divided on what should be done with the lead being taken by more liberal church leaders.

Report Links Anti-Immigrant Sentiment in the US to Rise in Hate Groups
By VOA News
10 March 2008

A leading U.S. civil rights organization says anti-immigrant sentiment is fueling a nationwide increase in hate groups and hate crimes against Latinos.

Members of The Traditional Christian Knights of the Ku Klux Klan hold a rally, in Stephenville, Texas, 17 Mar 2007
A new report from the Southern Poverty Law Center says 888 hate groups operated in the United States last year, an increase of 48 percent since 2000. It cites FBI statistics showing a 35 percent increase in reported anti-Latino hate crimes between 2003 and 2006. The report says the increase is linked to anti-immigrant activism.

The report's co-author Mark Potok says a large increase in anti-immigration groups appeared in the southern border states of California, Arizona and Texas, where illegal immigration is a volatile political issue.

Among the additions to the center's list of hate groups is an organization called the Federation for American Immigration Reform. Its president Dan Stein rejected the hate group label, saying his organization has been smeared.

The Southern Poverty Law Center alleges the group spreads conspiracy theories and racist propaganda about immigrants, and that it has a history of ties to white supremacist groups and ideology. But the federation says it advocates an end to illegal immigration and supports tighter controls over legal immigration.

Among the largest categories of hate groups cataloged in the report are neo-Nazi and white nationalist organizations, racist skinheads, Ku Klux Klan groups, black separatists and general hate groups, including anti-gay organizations.

Black pastor wants to evict his tenant, a purveyor of racist merchandise
9:09 AM Tue, Mar 11, 2008
Bruce Tomaso

There's a store in Laurens, S.C., the Redneck Shop, that sells Ku Klux Klan robes and T-shirts displaying racial slurs.

The owner of the building where the shop is located wants it out. That owner is David Kennedy, a black Baptist minister.

But the shopkeeper may have a legal right to operate the business there until he dies.

Steve's going straight to hell, no doubt about it, you are a blasphemous piece of shit. Your day is coming, probably sooner than you realize. Do you actually think that what is going on in Eldorado with the polygamist sect of the LDS has anything to do with true bible believing christians, if you do then it is just another example of your complete stupidity of gods word. You are continuing to prove what a complete and total idiot you are.

Damn right its strong language, Gods word doesnt say that christians have to be weak, even Jesus himself got mad when he ran all of the the lunatics like you out of the Temple and smashed all of their goods, its ok to get mad if you are a christian, I dont defend KXYL, I defend what is RIGHT! I'm not condemning folks to hell, they do a very fine job of that themselves, Your doing pretty good right now as well, masquerading as a christian one minute and trying to discredit them the next. Thats why you will someday burn and rot in hell, not to mention the fact that you are an aberrent sexual pervert. If you dont like the strong language then maybe you need to change the way you live and the way you act and the things that you think are right.

If the foul mouthed and vulgar defenders of Rex Tackett's "unfair and unbalanced" KXYL talk radio, posting on this forum, are representative of what it is to be a Christian, I can certainly understand why so many would choose to turn away from the Christians Faith. And this foul mouthed person want to speak/preach about perversion !

Now, back to more "Bible Belt" News:

'Child of God' doesn't sway jury

DALLAS — An investment adviser has been convicted in a tax fraud case in which he claimed to be a "child of God" with citizenship in heaven, not America.
A federal jury in Dallas on Friday convicted Lanas Evans Troxler of Lubbock on all 17 counts related to sham offshore entities.

Sentencing is June 25. The investment adviser faces a maximum 59 years in prison and a $4.3 million fine. Prosecutors say Troxler did business in Dallas from at least 1998 through 2002.

Whether its foul mouthed and vulgar is certainly an opinion isnt it, I am not preaching about perversion, I am only pointing out your own. You damn sure didnt deny it, so I guess the TRUTH HURTS DOESNT IT. The REAL reason people like you will stay away from christianity is because they would have to fundamentally change the way they live, you know, repent of your sins, and live a godly life. YOU DO NOT WANT TO DO THAT. ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS CRITICIZE THOSE WHO DO. By the way Steve I have been taught that the DEVIL has a big red hot poker that he can stab you with, but you'll like that.

If you were representative of what it is to be a Christian I certainly would stay away, but fortunately I know you do not represent what it is to be a Christian ! Fortunately a foul mouthed vulgar poster, such as yourself, on this forum does not get to define what it is to be a Christian ! Shalom

Theres not a single thing here that would be fouled mouthed. If you claim this as a reason to stay away, then you are demonstrating yourself more everyday as the complete moron that you are. I would sincerely hope that more christians were more emboldened and passionate about their religion as I am, but they are not, that is the problem. If they were you would be besieged by numerous posts from people like me. I dont straddle the fence, like you do and by the way mr. knowitall, who does define what a christian is. Thank god its not secular world loving homosexuals like you. A persons relationship with the Lord is between him and the Lord. You dont have any say so,whatsoever in validating any of that, so your statement is baseless and completely illogical. Your trying to connect LDS antics with bible believers is a real stretch, I realize all that you are trying to do is to discredit anything that you can find of a Godly nature, especially those things that any christian would know would not be acceptable by God according to the Bible. Keep it up Steve, your just digging a bigger hole for yourself in hell.
