Before I start this "what's on my mind" discussion
let me say, I've never claimed to be the sharpest tool in the barn. Although, as far back as I can remember I've had questions. When, where, what and why. Very often I wasn't satisfied with the answers I received and would keep probing for more info.

The reactions to the verdict in the Trayvon Martin trial started me thinking, wondering and doing some self analysis. In the past I have known and loved bigoted people. As Iíve aged and evolved into a senior citizen of today I find that I have no tolerance for such people. My circle of friends and family has shrunk considerably since the 2000 election and gets smaller every day. Most of my Texas relatives are in lock step with the great academics Rick Perry, Baby Bush, Louis Gomert and Ted Cruz etc. consequently, I no longer have contact with them.

I thank my long deceased Dad for getting his family the Hell out of Texas lest I might have been of like thought. However, my experience in SJC of late leads me to believe one could transport SJC to a place near Midland, Odessa, Abilene etc. and people would feel right at home. A place where people are happy in there ignorance, satisfied with not knowing facts, forming their beliefs on lies and propaganda spread deliberately or maybe just by ignorance.

First the election of Baby Bush by SCOTUS. Then his dereliction of duty prior to 9/11. His failure to kill or capture Bin Laden at Tora Bora. His invasion of Iraq based on lies.[Not going into detail about the crimes of Cheney, Libby, Rumsfeld, Addington, Brenamen, and many more.] The Patriot Act, the illegal wiretapping, the tax cuts favoring the wealthiest, the tanking of the economy just to name a few of my gripes. I cannot understand why so many people are able to accept all of the above with a shoulder shrug yet, go rabid over anything our current Prez says or tries to do.

Is critical, creative thinking and fact checking a thing of the past?

I welcome intelligent, thoughtful responses to this post. But, before you start in on Obama let me say I am very critical of him in areas where I disagree. But so help me, as much as I would like to think otherwise it is undeniable that much of the hatred for this half black man comes from the color of his skin not his actual deeds.

Yep, we be here.

AM radio, Fox news are gods around here.

Who was it that said "a sucker born every minute "

These homely folks will buy/believe anything.

Ask the guy from Kirtland who was trying to talk people into the VA hospital deal.

Mud into gold mentality around here.

I like this quote, and I apologize for not providing its author: "Not all conservatives are stupid people, but most stupid people are conservatives."

As I think about it, there certainly seems to be truth to it. Stupid people do not question, reason well, or think for themselves, therefore, the lazy mindset that does not reason is easily led by talk show hosts who say things that these types like to hear. They like to hear that it is patriotic and Amurcun to own an arsenal, attack other countries, and fear the "black" man.

Of course, that is an oversimplification, but I do believe it has to do with lazy minds.

San Juan County is FULL of very uneducated, unintelligent kneejerkers. Every time I am in a local business parking lot, I can't help but notice the blank, non-thinking look in their blank stares. That translates over into their Rush-loving, Bush-admiring voting that went a long way toward destroying this country.

It's been a while.old friend. good to hear from you again. We share common bonds; displaced Texan and liberal not to mention a disgust of ignorance and religion.
This could be an interesting thread if the name calling and vulgar insults are held down and, of course, if topix allows it.
Also, this topic goes far beyond Obama- not his skin color, I'm afraid- but he seems to be the con's scapegoat. But he is not the source of one's lack of critical thinking. I think you hit the nail on the head with your assertion about that. But when a person can stand up, with a straight face and announce that we should teach our kids, in public school yet, the world was created as a result of "Intelligent Design", bigotry is not the problem, but only another symptom.

Anyway, I'll do my share to feed the shark.

Religion....ah yes. The gathering place of non-thinkers.

It is amusing how they believe the most outlandish things in the name of religion--things that defy all natural laws that they claim their god created. It's called accepting by faith that which we don't understand.....and yet, if someone believes in something THEY don't understand, it is evil and of the devil. I guess I'm referring mainly to religious fundamentalism. Here again, a non-thinker's paradise.

this is a joke -right?(i mean left?)

You open up an APPEAL out to cyber-world then in attempt for 'critical, creative thinking' then you inject (or lest-let slip - whoops) ur disregard for the previous administration particularly Year 2000.

13 years ago was a long time, but if ur still having trouble sleeping at night, how do you expect a 'creative thinking' internet discussion - is America better now than 5 years ago?

If you remove your self from familiy and friends over disputed policies and politics, how do expect to gain any-thing worthwhile to talk of or associate with if YOU"VE already removed yourself from family.

But since you opened with Barack Obama -

The shoes fits on the other foot - it is undeniable that much of the "LOVE" for this half WHITE man comes comes from the color of his skin NOT HIS ACTUAL DEEDS!

'circling' the wagons considering the NEWS reports (despite the 24-hour SPIN effort) to shedding this Administration in a positive light.

But the events for example are obviously SPLIT for those who choose to align re..I mean progressive.

IRS- split
XL pipeline - split
Syria - split
NSA - split
drone strikes - split
Trayvon - split
and the list goes on....

A "Circle and Jerk" comes to mind.....U should charge admission for those who want to watch.

This topic was not started to be a conversation, it was started so liberals could get together to stroke each other over how much better they are than anyone else, because if there's one thing a liberal can't stand, it's a different opinion. Most hard-care liberals are insufferable elitist snobs, so it's my guess Bleeding Heart's dwindling circle of friends has more to do with choices made by others, however reluctantly.

I think the prezs record stands for itself without factoring in race. From ruling by edict, bypassing and sometimes ignoring the constitution, furthering his openly socialist and progressive ideals. All these traits would make any politician a target of at least half the population just on general principal. And of course when he himself injects race into his politics and exhorts 300 million if they don't think like him as racists, that helps no one. He is truly on track to becoming the most despised president, and he has earned that title all by himself.

Yes, 13 years is a long time and I sleep very little. My heart aches for the families of troops needlessly killed and maimed in Iraq. You are right about my choice concerning friends and family members. I choose not to spend whatever time I have left trying to converse with people who are happy in their ignorance, no intellectual curiosity and get their info from FOX and right wing radio exclusively. Oh yes and also from the pulpit.

"It's a conspiracy I tell you. A liberal conspiracy!"

Well it didn't take long for that claim to be made, now did it? Let's also recognize the appearance of the attack on BHL's character as well as "most liberals". I would say this post is right on schedule.

Why not spend equal time doing that for cons. That would be nice.

Ironic that liberals find Barack Obama to be their savior here on earth, while he puts in place policies of the Patriot Act which was the brainchild of George W. Bush.

Or is it just the color of his skin?

Barack Obama = George W. Bush's third and fourth terms? Brother from another mother?

Now that's ironic.

Now you are the kind of con we libs like to talk about. Please tell us more about yourself and your version of the "prez's" record (some examples, not just assertions, would help).

First you criticize the prez for bypassing the const. and now you fault him for upholding it. The PA was made the law of the land, long before Obama. Obama took an oath to uphold the law of the land and you criticize him for doing it.

Actually, no. The Patriot Act was set to expire, and President Obama renewed it. It's only the "law of the land" because Obama signed the renewal.

Which, of course, makes President Obama a hypocrite, because he fooled you lefties in to voting for him by campaigning against the Patriot Act, and promising to eliminate it, or at least change it. If were a leftist, I'd be pissed by such betrayal. But of course, I'm not a leftist. I don't have any particular problem with the Patriot Act.

Have you supported the Patriot Act all along?
