That's why there ARE boundaries. Special protection inside the boundaries to protect cultural resources. Outside the boundaries? Plain old BLM administered public lands. Drill, baby, drill!

is why the boundaries need to be expanded to protect more of the associate cultural sites and landscape.

I don't see anything in the article where the Hopi, or anyone else, are asking to enlarge Chaco Culture National Historical Park.

a minute - you said there is no gas industry in New Mexico anymore - so there should be no worries and nobody will be interested. Wonder why these parcels were nominated?

And you have also posted that you think all lands should be open.

There are cultural resources in these areas and thus federal protections required, regardless of the old management boundaries
