Here we go again. Let's close a school, terminate a bunch of teachers and support personnel, but add another position at the district office. C'mon. REALLY?? In some schools, class size has been over the legal state limit for at least two years now. But the district never applied for nd her waivers from the state 'cause they knew the PED would not grant them. So they've been out of compliance for quite awhile already, and next year will be no better.
Parents, pack the next board meeting--this week in Shiprock Board Room. If you don't stand up to this mismanagement, the kids lose--again. And the district administration will continue to run right over what is good for kids, parents, and the Shiprock community.
So glad that Ewa Krackpot resigned as well as her NEA goon at SHS. As a result, SHS picked up 2 incredible teachers. Seems like the NEA and the Mannings are in cahoots with each other during this budget cycle. Levinski needs to clean more of CCSDs house.

Levinski did not close KBO. That decision was made before he became superintendent. If you are going to try to make a case in defense of this current administration, Subutai, then let's get the facts straight. No more dissembling.
The golf course and the management of the commercial aspects of the performing arts centers were issues that the local education association had been working on for several years before Levinski was even in the district, and those cutbacks did not happen under his watch.
The assertion that under his 2012 budget there were no school closings is hollow given that he recently said it was necessary to close Career Prep which is a much newer campus than many that need refurbishing. We see now, of course, that it wasn't apparently necessary since they have decided not to close that school.
"...43 positions laid off, a couple being teachers (likely they got rid of some problem teachers)" An interesting statement, Subutai considering that far more than two of those positions are classroom teachers. And if any of those teachers are not performing adequately, there are steps in state law that administration should take to remedy that. The current administration cannot be bothered to follow state law, or the contract, or board policy. And that is another problem.
I was not a fan of many of the practices carried on when Byron Manning was running the business end of the district. And when I saw what I considered bad management, I said so. If you want to hang on to the notion that Levinski is better, knock yourself out. A lot of people hoped that would be the case and supported his selection as superintendent back when. Sadly, that has not turned out to be the case.
Wherever I see injustice, bad fiscal decisions, cronyism, and practice that is not good for kids, I will be saying so. I have no personal gain to protect. I simply cannot abide incompetence, and it doesn't matter which regime is or was worse than another. What matters is what is happening now.

Umm, it ended up being less than a half dozen jobs in the end. And no school closures.

Maybe you should read my post more carefully.

I was comparing and contrasting the previous administration, that the NEA seems to be cozening up with now. To the current one.

Is it the enemy of my enemy is my friend with the NEA, and the Mannings?

I think you are a bit lost on the get in debt to the state, it doesn't work that way.
Manning -2010 budget 4 million budget hole - close a good school on the reservation, but keep operating, a duplicate administrative office, Golf course, the white elephant preforming arts centers, Parents as teachers, Multiple layers of useless, and unqualified friends of his in administrative positions.
Levinski- 2012 budget 5 million budget hole - Closed KBO, multiple administrative positions removed, PAT program revamped and the administration restructured,+63% of the budget to the classroom. NO Schools closing. Very Few people actually laid off.
Levinski 2013 proposed budget now apparently a 2 million dollar hole. music programs for 5th graders, and 43 positions laid off. a couple being teachers (likely they got rid of some problem teachers)
It is pretty clear who is doing better and being more responsible. It wasn't Byron Manning. He wouldn't of had the **** to make those changes even if he had to. It would have meant people would have been mad at randy eventually and not elected him then Byron would have been moved out pretty quickly without that support.
Enrollment is decreasing in Kirtland because it has become a poor place to raise a family. Poor neighbors, who are doing their best to ruin the already poor schools.
That explains why Kirtland smells like a sewer/cess pool.... Even after the Mannings misused over $2 million in Navajo children's Impact Aid funds to build the Kirtland sewer system.

Yep, and the major beneficiary of that money are the same ones who were the behind the scenes leaders of Childrens First. They sure did enjoy the money to improve the value of their property, with the expansion to the sewer system courtesy of CCSD.

Speaking of sewer wasn't the sewer commissioner the first one to hook up a private business to the sewer system in kirtland? That timing seems a bit fishy. But then again he is a Manning buddy and that group doesn't seem to let little things like possibly giving the impression of doing something wrong bother them.

Go to the CCSD website and click on the organizational chart. Layer upon layer of directors, coordinators, supervisors--the "bureaucracy" grew under Levinski even though he started out on a platform of trimming the central office staff. Reports used to be available showing the ratio of administrators to students versus the ratio of teachers to students, but the PED website is not as user-friendly as it once was and these are hard to find.
Start by cutting some of those so-called "management" positions. Start by trimming the travel budget for administrators and managers. Too many of them are frequently gone to "training" programs that are costly. Eliminate district-owned cars provided for many of those administrators. If cuts have to deepen into instructional areas, trim the gifted program and eliminate a district coordinator for that program. All "academic" coaching positions should be cut. They are just another layer of bureaucrats who perform clerical busywork but who instruct no one.
I doubt you will find hard facts in the DT about the gap between the haves (district administration) and the have-nots (school employees and students). That would take more in-depth research than reporters typically will do.
Bravo!

Taking money from education, and the classroom. so your toilet does not back up, or to increase the value of the land you inherited from their fathers, father, father who squatted on it 120 years, isn't my idea of being honest.

I won't even get into the golf course/Kirtland Kountry Klub issues.

Pathetic....absolutley pathetic. Do you actually pay property taxes? Really? Land inherited from family? Squatted? Excuse me? Squatted? This is America bubba. And by the by...our native neighbors are living in their homeland. What with the 'shiprock', the 'angel peak' the 'sleeping ute' etc., are proof positive of their 'homeland'. They are home. Period. Or, they are where they historically proclaim to be. Now, as to what is 'taken' from education/classroom...who's paying for the education of the majority of sjc students? The federal government and the property tax payers. Squatters?
Now, as to the golf course...I opined on that. The same voting commission voted for a new building as...a 'substation' on 550...nuff said. Who voted that in? Who was coaxed on that issue? Half a million dollars on a substation that is never manned. Paid for by.....squatters....whose 'toilets' don't back up. Right...

Private sewer system? What? The majority of Kirtland is on septic systems Bubba...how did "the majority" benefit from this so called 'expansion'? You choose to base your opinion on one familial entity. How many property owners are there in Kirtland? How many PROPERTY TAX PAYING CITIZENS are there in Kirtland who have no familial ties with the Mannings? You continue to crucify. Why? We pay our taxes. We're responsible for educating our children, our neighbors children, the children who are in our district. Who votes to raise our property taxes? Who votes on bond issues? Who 'pays' for bond issues? Property tax paying citizens. Who votes on bond issues? Taxation without proper representation. Go jump in the lake Sub. You obviously have no dog in the fight. Just a huge opinion. Liberal. Put your money where your mouth is. Period.

WOW, your inner racist comes out. Comments like that is why the state ran the other way when Kirtland asked for the split.

I must of hit a bone with the squatter comment. It is true as the sky is blue.

I pay my share of taxes, probably much more than you. I have never any form of public assistance. As for you, probably one of obama's newly minted disabled folk.

Why would native Americans have to pay taxes in the first place. The entire country is built upon land that was taken from them.

How about military service? Does your family have a rate of service above 25% that includes men and women? Don't think so. If you are late 60's vintage I bet your whole family found ways to avoid military service. My dad went, my wife's dad went. Did you? Probably not.

Crawl back to your coward squatter hole of a trailer.

Much more than me? How do you figure? If you live in Kirtland and own property, you pay accordingly. Disabled folk? Sorry, not applicable. Why would 'Native Americans' be expected to pay the same taxes as any other American? Give me a break...why would you justify asking that? Are they 'Americans'? Nuff said. American is American. We're all 'Americans'. We use the same hiways, the same services....etc. Enjoy every 'quirk' AMERICA has to provide, EVERYONE MUST pay for it. Avoid military service? You suck.
Do you ask this same question of anyone of color? You bigot. My father is a veteran, my son is a veteran. I serve to this very day. You? Left that out of your bio. You hypocrite. Land that is 'taken' from the Navajo? You idiot. They are HOME. Shiprock, Angel Peak, Sleeping Ute.....etc. This is their home. Their long walk? They were allowed to go home. They are home you idiot. We're all native. Who does the earth belong to? Where did you come from? Another planet? Where did your ancestors come from? Why does anyone have a 'racist' control over the North American continent over anyone else? They don't. Who's protecting it? Now we're talking. Who's been protecting it for the last couple of hundred years.......you're an idiot. Enjoy your 'success'. Wad.

Sorry Ping, Mr Jammer dug himself a huge hole with this rant. A round of golf isn't going to fix him.

Unfortunately the sentiment behind his rant is pretty prevalent in his community and the circles he runs in. The CCSD drama just brought this sickness to the surface.

Pathetic. Education, wasted. You'll never get it. No this isn't a UK homeland any longer. That all changed in 1776. The whole 'Independence Day' thing and the 'Constitution' and the 'Declaration of Independence' thing....keeps us apart. Whoa! Novel ideas!
