In the urban communities of this county, what's the point of running a Democrat on the tickets - just to throw money down the drain?

In the non-rural parts of this county, most of the oil and gas Neanderthals just fill in the little "Republican" circle and submit their ballot.(And you don't take my word for it: even the voting volunteers can tell you that - it isn't hard to figure out when they see it takes a person no more than 5 seconds to fill out a full-page their ballot).

The notion of voting on principles and policy is irrelevant to most voters around here - it's Party all the way!

I really can't blame the Dems for not bothering... and for most registered Democrats for not want to waste their time and energy on this community. Some places - politically (and/or otherwise)- are just lost causes.

So maybe the only hope lies with the Independents. Independents, rise up and re-claim this country! To hell with a PARTY, let's get back to what America is supposed to be about. Even the moderate open-minded republicans get trounced by the "REAL" Republicans spending tons of money in order to win. You're right, Dems don't have a chance in hell. Let's all turn Independent and win back this country.

This insults the educated voting public in general. Democrat, Republican (or Independent, didn't see that). Vote for the man, not the party.

Doesn't work that way, WJ, wish it did. In this county, it's a party that calls the shots. You know it to be true (not to quote Darth Vader)

The basic edict applies to all voters, choose the person, not the party.

I always vote for the person not the party. We live in a small enough community that you should know who your elected officials are. This country has become much too partisan. There are a few folks whose beliefs lean to the very left. There are a few folks whose beliefs lean to the very right. Most of us are somewhere in the middle. We all want the best for our family, friends, and community. Until we open our eyes and come together our country will continue its downward spiral.

Everyone would like to believe that they are in the middle... the middle of what? Most people don't even know where their ideas fall in the political spectrum. When I was 18 or 19 I believed I was liberal, but was registered Republican... duality... Now that am older and a little wiser... Libertarian, but a lot more conservative. It's not just a few people when you look at the nuts and bolts... but the majority that lean to the extremes.. very few actually fill the middle.

And as for "Independents Unite", my you might as well have rode in on a Donkey. San Juan county always has and always will be a democratic county, reguardless of money. It just so happens that democrats are too lazy to campaign because they don't have to. Look at all the open seats where they couldn't find a candidate. The residents of San Juan County will always complain about their elected officials, but guess what, they won't change from the party line when they step in the booth. They just run the voting button down one side or the other and have no clue what or who they just voted for. But the democrats will never stop complaining or asking for a handout... no government handout will ever be enough until you have a cushy government created job where you don't do anything and those "fat-cat" republicans and their greed (sarcasm) pays for it all with their taxes. It's not a crime to want to make a good living for me or my family and not be punished. And if you really wanna talk about taking this country going back to it's roots, we should talk about states rights over the federalism that we have been indoctrinated with over the last 80 years. "We the people" have to stand up and hold our elected officials to the fire. Do your own research, don't take the lazy way out..."oh so and so told me", for San Juan County .

If you are looking to the Daily Times to give you a stright facts story, well then you all know that isn't gonna happen. So it's good for lining the birdcage and local sports scores... but they couldn't find the facts in a story with a flashlight, a map, and a sherpa.

Don't buy this middle of road BS,If your philosophy
is liberal, you want the Federal Government to
control all aspects of life, because you think you
are getting something for nothing. if its conservative, you want to live by the constitution,
with as little government as possible. and have
the freedom to live like you wish, and pay your own
way. its just that simple.
