I Don’t Want Bridges to Collapse: So am I a “Bleeding Heart?”

Conservative talk radio has recently increased its level of hateful attacks, trying to divide Americans for political purposes. I’m tired of hatefulness.

We American citizens once had some unity and an interest in helping our fellow citizens, but now we often reward greed and seek to blame others for problems that we should try to solve. And when statements like mine here are made, conservatives like to start name-calling:“bleeding hearts” they call us, or lately:“Kool-Aid-drinkers” or “lefties.”

People who support helping out fellow citizens are portrayed as somehow evil. This is upside-down thinking. And many of these same conservatives claim to have such wonderful “values.”

They’ve ramped up several smear campaigns against Senator Obama, AND AGAINST HIS WIFE.(There are answers to their nasty rumors at FightTheSmears.com .)

We should oppose candidates and stations that make hateful attacks designed to divide the American people against each other: one religious tradition against the other, rich against poor (and vice versa), women against men (and vice-versa), race against race, straight against gay, young against old, even those more physically able against the disabled.

Who is the best person to help lead Americans and develop new ways of talking with each other about actual issues instead of the same, tired slams and put-downs?

Although I presume McCain means well for his country, at heart, he’s a man who seems to want war, war and more war. McCain, although likely a wonderful grandfather, is also very-much out-of-touch with average Americans and their daily challenges.

And what we need are REASONABLE taxes along with reasonable programs that include oversight on how money is spent. The FDA is so under-funded at this point that it can’t inspect even a small portion of food processing facilities. Right now there are massive recalls of fresh tomatoes in effect. Many in Asia won’t buy US beef because they can’t trust its safety. Not long ago, it was unsafe peanuts... before that, lead in kids toys, tainted spinach, etc.. Do we really want an America where EVEN OUR FOOD ISN’T SAFE? This is Republican “leadership.”

Also, about 27 years of budget cuts and bad-mouthing of government programs and workers have demoralized many workers who were caring public servants and really wanted to do right by their fellow citizens. But, Bush/McCain-style Republicans portray them all as villains for crass political purposes.

Worst is McCain’s call to PRIVATIZE SOCIAL SECURITY and his flip-flop in later saying he won’t. Social Security is the only “safety net” for many older Americans who might otherwise be begging for food and living under bridges. Privatization would risk destroying that system. Is life always to be measured purely in dollars, or are there other goals to consider in American life, like fairness, morality and equality?

When conservatives attack our American government and its work, it might sound good at first, but they are really attacking America and other Americans!

Both major political parties in America have been guilty of excesses at times. Today, it’s clear to me that the REPUBLICANS ARE THE PARTY OF EXCESS:

Excess:
... rewarding the GREEDIEST operators in America
... pandering that DIVIDES AMERICANS
... SPENDING ON TWO WARS

We should bring Americans together. First, we need remove some of the most hateful people from political office, stop electing more of them, and change directions.

Defeat the hate. Defeat McCain.

No more maintenance-starved, collapsed bridges. No more bashing social security. No more tainted food.

And, I’m taking one-half of my tax rebate and sending it to www.barackobama.com .

Five and ten mile crossings have caused a lot of people to spend some very uncomfortable nights sleeping in their trucks waiting for the water to go down back in the fifties. They are very wide and unstable places to try to span with a bridge. For five mile it would probably be best to bridge across the San Jaun River West of Largo canyon and go up Largo on the west side. I crossed the old Blanco bridge daily for several years while it spaned the San Jaun.

That's the way it's done county wide and always has been done like that. They are the good old boy club and that'll never change.

Probably be wise to just dig a tunnel and go under the wash instead of over it since the sand shifts constantly and the wash changes constantly. It would probably cost less in the long run over the years to come :o)
