Not sure how long ago you lived near Stillwater, but today we have a collegiate flight school based on the field as well as near constant military operations and multiple charter flights daily. On any given game day the Stillwater airport will see anywhere from 10-12 jet aircraft (sometimes far more) some of which include commercial regional jets, 737s, and 757s as well as several smaller airplanes. On a very slow day the airport may function smoothly without a control tower but on busy days (especially game days) the airport will undoubtedly be less safe. Many who are not pilots do not understand the function of air traffic control, but to those of us who are air traffic controllers are very important.
