I heard this morning the Early co Sheriff Jimmie Murkerson was relieved of his duties by the F.B.I. and the coroner was appointed. Anyone know about this? What is it all about?

Jimmie Murkerson is as crooked as a funnel cake! Before anyone starts bashing me, no I'm not a criminal. I'm a law abiding citizen, but I know how he works!

If Todd Hunter was the acting sheriff he would have told people, don't you think? Haven't seen him acting like one. By the way, he is a nice business man.

I have heard that the sheriff is ill. He not a young man. This is how the system works. The sheriff is a constitutional officer which means that he represents the State in his county. If the sheriff can not fulfill his duties then the County correnor must step in and perform them. If the corenor can not then the Probate judge must appoint an acting sheriff until an election can be held. If the sheriff is sick and can not appear in court like he is suppose to then Mr Hunter has to step in and take his place.

It sounds like you sure are interested and know a lot about the coroner.

I don't know anything about the coroner and would not know him if I met him in the street. I have, however spent many years watching the sheriff and the Early Co. Mafia at work. Murkerson should have quit while he was ahead. This last term could be the one that brings them all down. The world has changed a great deal in the past 30 years and the sheriff has not kept in step with the change. He can not cover his tracks as easily as before.

The sheriff is this and the sheriff is that. This is folks who do not have nothing better to do but make up rumors about people.I have heard at one time or another that every sheriff is on the take or doing something illegal. But it's not true.

Sheriff Murkerson and his family have always done right by me.You people must have some family who have been on the wrong side of the law. Is that why you have so many negative things to say about him?

If y'all want to know what is going on with the Sheriff why don't you do what I did and CALL him??
He has not stepped down, nor has he been removed from office. He has no plans of retiring early.
I know this is a disappointment for some of y'all, sorry about your luck. If I talk to him again and he tells me different, I will be sure to post it where you won't have to wonder. Glad to see not much has changed in Blakely. Have a good day!!

Rumors? Not likely.
Fact. Before the Georgia lottery, the sheriff's first cousin, ran an illegal numbers racket in Early County. My maid wrote (took the bets) for him. My husband and I played occasionally. When asked to whom she took the money she responded with the cousin's name. There were several occasions when she could not take any bets because the cousing told her not to because the GBI was in town.

There are many, many more documented facts that will be brought forward at the next election. There will be someone in the running that has no ties to the sheriff's department who will bring the facts out into the open. Buckle up Early County 2012 should be quite a ride.
