Derry mayor defends fired police chief

Blairsville Council's decision last week to fire Donald Hess as the town's police chief was unwelcome news to Susan Bortz, mayor of nearby Derry Borough and a friend of Hess.

Well here you go again Mayor, sticking your two cents in on something you should not be involved. How about taking charge of your own force in Derry? Make it a modle force, and stop wondering why Blairsville did what they had to. You probally do not have the facts, and still not warranted with all your past certifications to get involved. As for just and proper explaination for the dismissal, I am sure you need to reflect on your past actions as well. Save Dery not the whole state like we tax payers pay you to do, if not, quit AGAIN, and move to the agenda that your trying to be a part of what ever that may be!

I agree Derry needs to run Derry and Blairsville needs to run Blairsville. Blairsville council needs to manage their own high tax problems and not get involved in other government's business like Burrell township and the B/S school district.

I have to agree also. Just because he is or was her friend she doesn't need to go questioning their motives. I don;t know about you but I never told the mayor that I was upset the the police chief got fired. Maybe council needs to fire Derry's police cheif for the same things. She is incharge of the police department and they get paid to do their job. If they aren't doing their job then they need to be fired. I don't like to be mean but she needs to manage her department before she casts stones on someone elses.

Anyone following the information that the mayor and council are giving on the I.C.I property? Saying that they are about to get funds to put in an ethanol facility on the site? That was a great idea other than what they are not telling all of you is that its all a lie!! I have read E-mails that said plainly that the site in question is not now or ever will be suitable for a fuel plant as it is way to close to residentual homes!! Oh and by the way for all you who dont know this yet all e-mails sent through any public office are not private and must be disclosed upon request! Food for thought when you have a question about what is going on in your area!

I am disturbed by the lack of inforcement in Derry, let alone Blairsville. They have their problems, we have our own. Let Derry resolve them as Blairsville will do the same. We do not know the whole story as many times we do not get such information. But to have our Mayor go to the rescue of a person who was PROPERLY, and RIGHTFULLY dismissed, than this protest is not in the greater good of our town in Derry. She can not enforec the train crossing laws that are Federal, let along the other ones that have become a social judgement in her eye, not a public concern. That must be why this poll is so much against her in many ways.This is the main reason why so many of you want change, and need to make it by writting in another MAYOR for Derry Borough.
